The Weird Eating Habits That Helped Jimmy Kimmel Drop 25 Pounds

Lately, it seems like Jimmy Kimmel is everywhere.

When he’s not hosting the Oscars, he’s making us all tear up with updates about his son Billy’s heart condition.

And in between, he manages to find time to be an accidental viral video star, or to shoot the breeze with Ellen DeGeneres.

But with Kimmel constantly on our TVs and computer screens these days, it’s easy to forget just how different he used to look.

By his own account, Kimmel grew up as a binge eater, with a love for greasy food like pizza and chicken wings.

He blames his love for food on growing up with an Italian mother, and on living in Las Vegas – where the streets are lined with all-you-can-eat buffets.

But Kimmel says he never watched his waistline, or even owned a scale until he bought one on a whim in 2010.

When he stepped on, he was stunned to see he weighed 208 pounds.

Around the same time, TV host Dr. Oz teased Kimmel for his size during an appearance on his show.

The next day, Oz called Kimmel back to tell him he was serious.

“I’m worried about you. You’re a young man. You have to take care of yourself,” the doctor told him.

“You know what?” Kimmel told Men’s Journal about the intervention, “Dr. Oz shouldn’t care more about my health more than I do.”

Kimmel’s first attempt to lose weight was dangerous and severe, but the TV host explains that “there’s no dipping my toe in the water” for him.

“I’m all the way in,” he explained.

That meant limiting himself to “two protein shakes and a very small dinner every day” for two months.

Afterwards, Kimmel “eased up,” moving to a strict 2,000-calorie-per-day limit.

The crash diet helped Kimmel shed weight quickly, but these days he has a more relaxed – but still bizarre – diet plan.

5 Simple Wrist Exercises To Prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

If you often feel tingling, pain or numbness in your hands, you may have carpal tunnel syndrome. This is caused by pressure on the median nerve in your wrist.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is extremely uncomfortable and can make any daily basic task painful and difficult.

Carpal tunnel can come from a number of factors from not eating right to repeatedly having strained hand positions.

Although there is no sure fire way to prevent this syndrome, there are a few things you can do to make your chances of getting it a lot smaller.

Here are some lifestyle changes you can do to prevent carpal tunnel:

– Don’t smoke

– Eat healthy

– Stay at a healthy weight

– Lower your salt intake

Although all these methods are extremely effective, it is very hard to make an extreme lifestyle change to prevent something like this. Although these changes will impact a lot more than preventing carpal tunnel, if you wanted to make this kind of a change, you wouldn’t decide on it now to prevent carpal tunnel.

Luckily, there are changes you can make that won’t disrupt your entire life! Every one of these exercises are with your hands so you can do them practically anywhere, anytime.

After Doctors Told Him He Had Three Months To Live, He Lost Over 500 Pounds

Do you have a bad habit you’re trying to kick? It seems like every year in January, people try to devote their “New Year’s resolutions” to fixing something about themselves that they could probably be doing better on.

Brock Press

Maybe you feel like you’ve been spending too much time at work and not enough with your loved ones? It’s a pretty common worry, and fortunately the solution is pretty simple: start making more time for the people you care about! Similarly, another pretty common one is for people to be more assertive about what they want out of life.

New York Times

However, by far the most common resolution among people is to try to improve their health, and especially their weight. I guarantee you that if you go to the gym in the weeks following January 1st, you’ll find it beyond packed with tons of people who’ve decided they need to get in shape. Unfortunately, many of those people will stop after the first 10 days, but it’s important to keep going if you really want to see results.

For Stanley Hollar from Indiana though, losing weight wasn’t a matter of wanting to better himself for New Year’s: it was after his doctors told him that if he didn’t change his lifestyle, he’d be dead in three months…

9 Ways Aerobic Exercise Changes Your Body For The Better

We know, we hate exercise just as much as you do. The sad truth is, staying healthy involves exercising whether we like it or not.

But we have some good news: new research is proving that the least intense kind of exercise, aerobics or “cardio,” can have huge benefits for your body, even in very small doses.

Here’s nine ways the exercise can improve your body:

1. It helps manage diabetes

Whether you already have Type 2 diabetes, or you’re trying to avoid it, aerobic exercise has been proven to keep the disease at bay. The even better news is that it only takes 20 minutes of mild exercise a few days each week to cut your diabetes risk by almost half.

In fact, just one session of cardio exercise can regulate your body’s insulin production for the next 24 hours.

2. It lifts your mood

According to Harvard Medical School, aerobic exercise like running or swimming “has a unique capacity to exhilarate and relax, to provide stimulation and calm, to counter depression and dissipate stress.”

Even patients with clinical depression noticed a significant improvement in their symptoms with just 30 minutes on the treadmill a few days each week.

3. It builds muscle

Harvard Health Publishing

It used to be common knowledge that cardio exercises cut fat, while you had to lift weights to build muscle. In fact, a review of 14 studies found that under an hour of cardio exercise four days a week can help build your leg muscles as well as resistance exercise does.

4. It can repair your heart

Medical news Today

As we age, the muscles in your heart “stiffen,” making it harder for the muscle to pump oxygen-rich blood all over your body. Regular cardio exercise has been proven to loosen up your heart muscles, improving your overall health.

Here’s Why Waking Up Early Can Actually Be Bad For Your Health

January 1st was a day of new beginnings for many people. As New Year’s resolutions started kicking into high gear, people started making their way to gyms across the nation in an effort to lose weight and get healthier.

It can be difficult to find time to make it to the gym, so a lot of people decide that they will get their early, and that is how they will start their day. Often times people will sacrifice sleep in order to get to the gym and work up a sweat. But what if you didn’t have to?

It turns out that it might just be better if you decided to get the extra sleep instead of heading to the gym. Scientists from King’s College London have figured out that people who get more sleep are far less likely to eat piles of sugary treats or carbohydrates.

A lack of sleep can actually alter the hormones in your body that regulate your appetite, which will make you want those unhealthy treats and snacks. Apparently, people who get more sleep will consume an average of 10 grams of sugar less per day.

5 Years Later, Mom-Shaming Fitness Model Says She’s Learned Her Lesson

It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since we first heard about Maria Kang, the fitness model who was accused of “mom-shaming” other parents on social media.

Kang made headlines after sharing a photo of herself flaunting her abs next to her three sons on social media. What drew controversy was Kang’s question “What’s your excuse?” written above the picture.

Other parents accused Kang of shaming them with unattainable and unhealthy beauty standards, but the mother-of-three refused to back down.

Even when she offered an “apology” for the photo, it struck many as less than sincere.

“What you interpret is not MY fault,” Kang wrote. “It’s Yours. The first step in owning your life, your body and your destiny is to OWN the thoughts that come out of your own head. I didn’t create them. You created them. So, if you want to continue ‘hating’ this image, get used to hating many other things for the rest of your life.”

Kang doubled down on her critics, arguing she was being “fit shamed” for her healthy lifestyle.

Now, five years after igniting a national debate, Kang is making waves again with an update to her original photo.

Skip The Gym: New Wearable Patch Burns Fat Without Exercise

What’s the one problem area on your body that you just can’t seem to shrink – let’s be honest, we all have one.

Whether it’s sagging arms, a bulging waist or those infamous love handles, these unsightly areas are so difficult to get control of that they drive us to give up on our exercise routine and just grab a burger. As long as human beings have been exercising, we’ve been searching for an easy way to “spot reduce” these fat deposits.

Now, scientists may have finally answered our prayers with a wearable patch that shrinks fat wherever you apply it on your body. Yes, it’s really that simple. The miracle patch was developed by researchers at Columbia University Medical Center and the University of North Carolina.

White fat compared to brown fat.Dr. Oz

The “one simple trick” it uses to help you lose weight relies on an unexpected helper: baby fat. Babies are born with a high concentration of “brown fat,” which actually burns fat to keep them warm. As we age, that healthy brown fat turns into chunkier “white fat,” which has less health benefits.

Columbia University Medical Center

The patch “browns” white fat using microscopic needles – we’re talking really small, like 400 times thinner than a human hair, so don’t get squeamish – and specifically targets whatever part of your body you place it on.

And scientists have already seen some very effective results from the patch’s first test…
