Nurse Called In Sick To Protect Patients, But She Got Fired Instead

The United States is experiencing an epidemic of the flu the likes of which hasn’t been seen since 2003. It’s even worse than the swine flu outbreak that happened a decade ago, and while there haven’t been quite as many casualties, the fact remains that thousands of people have been suffering from the condition over the last few months.

Naturally this has led to a massive increase in doctor and hospital visits, both to seek diagnosis and treatment of the disease, as well as to receive doctor’s notes where required.

As it stands, quite a few businesses and employers require their employees to back up their claims of being sick with a paid note, or else they risk having their employment terminated.

Nursing Schools

However, some businesses don’t seem to even want to permit their workers to call in sick for legitimate reasons, and the latest to commit this offense is, shockingly, a hospital…

Ann Curry Speaks Out 5 Years After Being Let Go From ‘Today’

Fives years after being let go from the Today show, Ann Curry is breaking her silence.

Media outlets speculated her June 28, 2012 dismissal to her poor relationship with her former co-anchor Matt Lauer, and the pair’s lack of “chemistry.”

However, this past November, Lauer’s contract with NBC was terminated for his alleged acts of sexual misconduct. While some would expect Curry to be exuberant over the news, she instead spoke to PEOPLE about her empathy towards the victims.

“I’m not a vengeful person. I know what it’s like to be humiliated. I just don’t want to play a part in anyone else’s humiliation,” Curry said.

“I wish I could say that I was celebrating,” she added. “But actually I immediately checked myself. Because I knew women had suffered.”

Now, Curry is ready to speak out on how she felt all those years ago.

Queen Elizabeth II Fires Royal Bra-Fitter Following Release Of Tell-All Memoir

Queen Elizabeth II has fired her official bra-fitter after she wrote an autobiography involving her professional relationship with the royal family.

After nearly 60 years of service, the Queen’s official lingerie supplier Rigby & Peller has been stripped of its royal warrant after (the company’s board member and former owner) June Kenton, 82, released a tell-all memoir of her career, dubbed Storm in a D-Cup.

A royal warrant of appointment is a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to members of the royal family, which only about 800 businesses have.

On Jan. 10, the Royal Warrant Holders Association confirmed to PEOPLE that Kenton’s longstanding relationship with the British monarch had ended last year, which was during the same time frame the book came out.

“I never thought when I was writing the book that it would upset anyone,” Kenton said. “I’ve had the royal warrant for so long, I never imagined that this would happen. It’s horrible and a real shock.”

But Kenton wasn’t the only one to speak out on the surprise dismissal.

Utah School Board Fires Teacher For Showing Art Containing Nudity, And Parents Can’t Agree On It

Teaching is one of our oldest and proudest professions. In theory at least, it takes some of our best and brightest minds, and uses them to educate and instruct our next generation in what they need to know in order to live a successful life.

Unfortunately, in recent times there has been no shortage of scummy individuals who have taken advantage of their position as an authority figure when it comes to the children they teach, often to the point that these children incur some very significant trauma. It’s a situation that understandably has both parents and school boards extremely concerned about the safety and well-being of their children.

Write Choice

However, as a result, we’ve seen an increased amount of sweeping, generalized rules put into play in schools that seem less dedicated to protecting kids from predators and more about protecting school boards from lawsuits. From “zero tolerance” violence policies that punish children for defending themselves, to subjects being stripped down or outright banned to avoid parents getting angry, a few bad apples have effectively poisoned the batch for everybody.

The most recent example of this comes from Mateo Rueda, a Utah elementary school teacher who is contesting his termination by the school board, all because he showed students examples of art that contained nudity…

Hero Cop Of Pulse Nightclub Shooting Says He Was Fired Just 6 Months Before Getting His Pension

A police officer who was hailed as a hero less than two years ago says he’s being kicked off the force because of his PTSD.

In the aftermath of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, which was the deadliest mass shooting in American history at the time, news reports described how Officer Omar Delgado of the Eatonville Police Department dragged survivors out of the building to safety.

Delgado was a nine-year veteran of the department, and one of the first officers to arrive at the scene of the shooting. He says his experiences that night gave him post-traumatic stress disorder, and in the last eight months he was forced to take light duties to cope with his condition.

Now, the police department has declared him unfit for duty, and Delgado will be officially dismissed on December 31. The timing is especially difficult for Delgado, because he was just six months away from qualifying for a pension from the city.

Delgado says he just wants to complete another six months on the police force.Newsmax

“Just let me get vested and I will be more than happy to pack up my troubles and leave,” the officer said in an interview with USA Today. “This is the thing I’ve been working toward for 10 years and to be six months shy then fired — it’s like, ‘Wow!'”

Residents of the small community of Eatonville were outraged by the decision, and survivors of the shooting spoke out in Delgado’s defense at a heated city council meeting.

Man Fired After He Used Potato Chip Bag To Ditch Work 140 Times

Believe me, we’ve all had days where we would like to call into the office, come up with some silly excuse, and take the day to do what we really want. But we saddle up and hit the hay, day after day.

Some of us are less than honest though, and a few of them are able to get away with it in the most extraordinary of circumstances, but it always comes back to haunt them.

So maybe it was karma that got Tom Colella in the end, when he was fired from his position as a senior union delegate when it came to light that he had been skipping work to play golf. And quite a bit of it at that.

An anonymous tip was sent to his employers that Colella had gone off to play golf instead of going to work no less than 140 times over the course of a two year period.

That’s right, over 1 quarter of his work year was spent playing 18 holes. And thanks to a bag of potato chips, he nearly got away with it too.

Matt Lauer Fired From NBC

This morning Americans woke up to some unforeseen news about one of the most popular anchors in the country, Matt Lauer.

The veteran morning news anchor has reportedly been fired from his position at NBC. His former co-host Samantha Guthrie made the shocking announcement during Wednesday’s Today Show broadcast. Lauer has been an anchor on the show for about two decades.

“This is a sad morning at ‘Today’ and NBC News,” Guthrie said. “As I’m sure you can understand, we are devastated.”

Andrew Lack, NBC News Chairman, sent a memo to the staff explaining that a colleague filed a complaint against Lauer, and “while it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”

So what has he been accused of?

CIA Fires Lulu The Lazy Bomb-Sniffing Dog, But She Gets Her Happy Ending

To give the public a better idea of all the work that goes into training K-9 units, the CIA has been releasing “pupdates” on their Fall Puppy Class.

Interested animal lovers can follow along as the team of trained police dogs learn new sets of skills, including how to detect and warn their handlers about dangerous explosives. It’s been interesting to see what happens behind the scenes, but the Agency has had to share some sad news about one of their adorable recruits.

Lulu the black Lab had been trained by the Fairfax County Police Department before joining the CIA’s bomb-sniffing program, but her instructors quickly noticed a problem. Lulu just wasn’t interested in bomb-sniffing. “All dogs, just like most human students, have good days and bad days when learning something new,” the Agency explained.

But Lulu had many more bad days than good ones. While bouts of doggy laziness usually last “a day, maybe two,” it was obvious that Lulu wasn’t keen to learn like the other dogs were. Sadly, for her own “physical and mental well-being” Lulu’s trainers had to drop her from the program.

But now Lulu has found an even better job…

10 Totally Stupid Reasons Why People Were Fired From Their Jobs

We all hope that we’ll never be shown the door by our boss, but apparently it’s something we should all be prepared for. These 10 people were just minding their own business when they were unexpectedly canned. Some were even doing this jobs too well.

See if you think any of these cases are reasonable:

At 68 years old, customer service representative Richard Eggers didn’t look much like a hardened criminal, but he lost his job with the Wells Fargo bank because of his chequered past. But Eggers wasn’t a bank robber in his younger days, the only thing he “stole” was a 10 cent wash.

In 1963, Eggers found himself in trouble for using a cardboard “slug” shaped like a dime to wash his clothes at a laundromat for free. That was enough to get him fired over federal banking regulations targeting “dishonesty, breach of trust or money laundering.” No, not that kind of laundering.

A McDonald’s worker in the tiny town of Lemmer in the Netherlands was sent home after breaking the rules by giving away an extra slice of cheese. The worker sold another employee on his break a burger, but added a free slice of cheese at his request.

McDonald’s claimed this was not allowed, because a cheeseburger is more expensive than a regular burger. After taking the fast food giant to court, a sympathetic judge ordered them to pay the worker €4,500 in lost wages. That’s a lot of cheese.

In the classic Seinfeld episode “The Good Samaritan,” Jerry suggests that instead of “God bless you,” people should start saying “you are so good looking” after a sneeze. This caught on with a group of workers during a retreat in 2009, but when they went back to the office they found that not everyone shared their sense of humor.

One of the employees, John Preson, was fired when he repeated the line over and over again to a sneezing woman, which was considered sexual harassment. Funny how that never came up on the TV show.

Juan Canales was working at a Thai restaurant in Florida when he noticed a customer was being carjacked at knifepoint outside the restaurant. Canales managed to wrestle the thief to the ground and restrain him until police arrived.

But when his shift ended later that day, Canales’s boss told him not to come back. Apparently the hour he spent rescuing the customer, talking with police and being interviewed for the news was too long for his boss. Luckily, job offers poured in for Canales once his story was shared on local news.

Brace yourself, because this next one is totally unbelievable…

Nurses Under Investigation After Obscene Photos With Newborns Go Viral

Nurses are everyday heroes, and the nurses that look after newborn children are some of the most kindhearted of all.

But two women from Jacksonville, Florida have been fired after breaking the sacred trust between parents and hospital workers in a disturbing video and photographs. Earlier this week, a pair of hospital workers filmed themselves taunting the newborn children they should have been looking after.

A warning to parents: some of these images may be disturbing.

While the two women were originally identified as “Navy nurses,” in fact they’re not licensed nurses at all. Just Navy corpsmen working at the Jacksonville Naval Hospital. Their position is comparable to a “nurses’s assistant” at a civilian hospital.

In a photo shared on the social media app Snapchat, one of the women can be seen giving a baby the middle finger. She captioned the photo “How I currently feel about these mini Satans.” Another video shows a different woman making a baby dance to a rap song. “We’re going to hell,” the woman taping can be heard saying.

Once these images were shared online, a high school friend of one of the woman took screenshots of the footage and shared them on Facebook, hoping to have “these childish girls get reprimanded and lose their jobs.”

In fact, being fired is now the least of these women’s problems…
