There’s One Product You Always Can Count On When Dealing With A Teenage Boy’s Style Phases

This post is sponsored by Mirum, but all opinions expressed are my own.

As a mother, you probably have or are currently going through the confusion of “the teenage boy.”

It feels nearly impossible to keep up with what phase they are going through, because it changes practically everyday. What they were into yesterday, is considered “lame” today, and tomorrow it will be something completely new.

They grow up so fast, and it’s hard to keep up sometimes. Luckily there’s one product you know you can count on for any and every phase your son is going through.

Axe hair styling products can be used for any hairstyle your son is into, they’re easily adaptable and always reliable. You can find any of these products at your local CVS, and at an awesome price with their current promotional offers.

Here are some hairstyles your son can try out for any phase he may be going through:

They’ll most likely be at this phase in their late teens. When they start to wake up five minutes before they have to leave the house, they’ll want to try this style. This style will make them finally look good while lazy, instead of throwing on that disgusting baseball cap.

For this style, you’ll want to use the AXE Messy Look Matte Wax.  This wax is perfect for a laid back hair style because it gives them that perfect, “I didn’t try but I still look good,” look. This wax will also keep that look for them all day long but won’t stiffen their hair too much.

This look is probably the easiest, and should only take them a couple of minutes to do.

They should start with freshly washed hair to get the best results. The rest is easy, they should use a small dab of the wax and run their fingers through their hair, while also shaking their hair around a little bit. This will form the perfect messy hair look they are looking for.

If you haven’t seen this phase yet, trust me you will. For some reason, almost every teenage boy goes through this phase, even if it’s for a short while. This usually happens in their younger teen or preteen years and can last for a day or even years.

This style works best with the AXE Natural Look Softening Cream. This cream is incredibly easy to use, and it will create a textured hairstyle, that will stay in place all day.

To get this look, they should start with clean and dry hair. He should evenly distribute the cream on his hands, then he can then run his fingers through his hair towards the back of his head. This looks especially good if he angles his hair back and to one side.

Doing this will give him a clean, pulled back look that will be an easy way to look clean and put together. All he needs is his button up shirt and he will be ready to go.

This is probably everyone of our least favorite phases to have to watch, but it happens. This is probably that phase where you beg them to cut their over-gown, greasy hair, but they refuse.

They will want to use the AXE Natural Look Understated Cream for this look. This styling cream will tame their wild hair. It also has just enough hold to keep their hair in place, without having it look crunchy or over-styled.

This relaxed and “rocker” style, actually works best with longer and messy hair. They can either apply this cream to completely dry hair, or towel dried damp hair.

They should start with just a small dab and add more if they need to. For this style, they should rake their fingers all through their hair from root to tip. This looks best if they rake their hair upwards, to get a little volume. Using a small comb can also make this easier. When they’re done, they can throw on their jean jacket to complete the look.

Luckily for you, there are two promotional offers going on right now that will have you loading up on these products.

From 2/25/18 to 3/3/18

Buy 1, Get 1 50% on select AXE hair products. Also, get $5 ExtraBucks Rewards when you spend $15 on participating AXE Hair products.

From 3/18/18 to 3/24/18

Buy 1, Get 1 50% OFF on select AXE Hair Care products. Also, get $5 ExtraBucks Rewards when you spend $20 on participating AXE Hair products.

These offers are both available in store at any CVS location.

Although we might not always love the phase our sons are going through, the least we can do is help them look good while doing it. CVS provides all of the products listed above, for all your sons hair styling needs.

What is your least favorite phase your son has gone through? #AXEpersonalstyle

Woman Learns To Love Herself, After Years Of Being Ashamed Of Her Body Hair

A Wisconsin woman has learned the importance of self-acceptance after living with a genetic condition since puberty.

Leah Jorgensen, 33, has polycystic ovary syndrome (otherwise known as hirsutism), a hormonal disorder that includes causing abnormal male-patterned hair growth.

Her self-esteem plummeted at the age of 14 when bullies would cruelly refer to her as a “man.” She hid behind long-sleeved, high-necked shirts and full-length pants for 13 years until she decided to shave.

However, shaving wasn’t an easy process. It would take Jorgensen several hours to remove the thick, dark hair that covered her face and entire body, only for it to grow back soon after.

“I had never seen women who looked like me. I was so ashamed that I didn’t want to talk about it,” Jorgensen said. “I felt ashamed, embarrassed and scared, like I was somehow less of a woman.”

Jorgensen’s distress over her excessive hair caused her to shy away from the ordinary activities we usually take for granted. She avoided the dentist for 12 years and didn’t have her first kiss under she turned 27.

“My daily goal for a long time was to just get through the day without anyone noticing how hairy I was,” she explained. “Because I have so much of it, it was very difficult to hide it. I developed a terrible case of anxiety and it really took a toll on my mental health.”

Trips to the doctor didn’t help either, as Jorgensen said she felt shamed by the medical staff.

“I had a bad experience with my doctor. She had never seen such an extreme case of hirsutism and she was startled and made a facial expression,” Jorgensen said.

“She had a figure on a piece of paper and she drew where the hair was. I was so sensitive that it really upset me and made me feel like a freak,” she added.

It was only until Jorgensen suffered from a freak accident that finally made her see her body in a new light.

Having Hairy Nipples Could Be A Sign Of Serious Health Concerns

Like it or not, having body hair is an irrefutable part of life.

Sure you can shave or wax it off, but even if the hair’s not as coarse or as thick, it’ll still come back as prickly as ever.

Humans, like animals, have body hair for a reason (and it’s not related to style).

For instance, having body hair provides a cushion against friction that can cause skin abrasions and injuries, and gives us protection from bacteria and other unwanted pathogens. When how hair stands up in the cold, it’s in order to trap more heat close to our bodies.

Despite the sound reasoning, most of us still have negative feelings towards the unwanted follicles, especially if the hair’s significantly prominent in the nipple area.

According to The Sun, the amount of hair surrounding your nipples is mainly due to hormonal changes or imbalances in your body, which can be due to an increase in the male sex hormone testosterone. This can occur when a woman enters menopause, because estrogen levels tend to drop.

However, if you notice your nipples are hairier than normal (if you compare it with your friends, we won’t judge), it could be a sign of a serious health concern.

How Long Can You Really Go Without Washing Your Hair?

We’ve all wondered how long it is actually socially acceptable to go without washing our hair. When we were growing up, we were taught to wash our hair everyday to keep it clean and not greasy.

However, the method that we all grew up doing might actually be doing more damage to our hair than we thought.

Our hair gets greasy after not washing it very similarly to how our face gets greasy. We have oil glands in our scalp that produce a substance called sebum, which provides moisture to our hair so it doesn’t dry out.

When looking at how often we should wash our hair, the answer gets trickier because it varies for everyone. Each person produces a different amount of sebum on their scalp, therefore making every persons scalp different.

It can also depend on your skin type, hair type and styling methods. But good news, no one should have to wash their hair everyday.

For example, if your hair is damaged by styling you should try to wash it less often than if it is very healthy, this is because damaged hair is already very dry so washing it will only dry it our more.

If you have thick or curly hair, you can probably wash your hair a lot less often than someone with thin and straight hair.

Your skin acts the same way as your scalp, so you should be able to look at your skin for signs. For example if your skin is not super oily or not super dry, your scalp will be the same. If this is the case, you shouldn’t need to wash your hair very often. On the other hand, if it is super oily you’ll want to wash your hair much more often than if you have dry skin.

If you have tried to go without washing your hair but it never seems to go well, there could be a solution.

Kate Middleton’s Hairstylist Just Revealed All The Products The Duchess Uses On Her Hair

The Duchess of Cambridge may have a stylist to get her ready for royal events and outings, but that doesn’t mean we also need one to look like royalty.

Her royal hairstylist has finally revealed what we’ve all dying to know about the mother of two: What products does she use on her hair?!

As part of the latest royal tour to Norway and Sweden, Kate will be needing all the help she can get to perfectly style her hair for the cold Norwegian winter.

Her stylist, Amanda Cook Tucker, posted a photo of her kit on Instagram of all the products Kate uses while on vacation. They’re surprisingly cheap!

Without further ado, here are Kate’s secrets to her royal beauty and picture-perfect style…

Kate Middleton Secretly Donates 7 Inches Of Hair To Children’s Charity

It’s hard to keep a secret when you’re a member of the royal family, but somehow Kate Middleton managed to do just that.

Despite being in her third trimester, the Duchess of Cambridge has been making several public appearances with a genuine smile plastered on her face.

This Tuesday, Middleton and her husband, Prince William, visited an outdoor ice-skating rink in the center of Stockholm, Sweden to play a game of bandy hockey and meet the local schoolchildren.

But that wasn’t the first time she’s met kids this year. On January 22, Middleton went to an elementary school in London to talk about the importance of taking care of your mental health.

“I see time and time again that there is so much to be gained from talking of mental health and taking the mental health of our children as seriously as we do their physical health,” Middleton said. “When we intervene early in life, we help avoid problems that are much more challenging to address in adulthood.”

While the royal makes time in her busy schedule to bring awareness to causes close to her heart, she doesn’t always put her good deeds on display.

10 Reasons Why Your Hair Is Falling Out

There are many reasons your hair may be falling out, or thinning. The good news is It can grow back and repair itself!

1. Stress

Any kind of physical or emotional stress could cause hair loss. This could be caused by work, trauma, a car accident or even the flu.

2. Pregnancy

This goes along with physical stress and hormones. Pregnancy-related hair loss is more commonly seen after your baby has been delivered rather than actually during pregnancy.

3. Lack of protein

If you don’t get enough protein in your diet, your body may ration protein by shutting down hair growth, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. This can happen about two to three months after a drop in protein intake, they say.

4. Heredity

If you come from a family that experienced hair loss at a certain age, you’re more susceptible for it to happen to you.

5. Female Hormones

New birth control, or even stopping taking birth control can cause hair loss.

Your Pillow Is Ruining Your Hair And Skin, Here’s Why

For many of us, our beds are our happy place. Nothing feels better than a good night’s sleep, so the last thing we want to hear is that our pillow is damaging our skin and hair.

All those products you buy to give your hair and skin more life will be put to good use if you’re aware of how your pillow is affecting your beauty.

Here are 7 signs that your pillowcase is ruining your hair and skin.

1. You’re getting a lot of face and upper back acne.

This is probably happening because your pillow is dirty, even though it looks and smells clean. If you’re not changing your pillowcase once or twice a week, chances are your pores are getting clogged up from dirt and oil that gets absorbed into your cotton pillowcase.

2. You’re getting wrinkles.

All those expensive oils and creams will go to waste if you’re not sleeping in the right position or on a proper pillowcase. If your cotton pillowcase is rough, it’s probably tugging at your skin, creating unwanted wrinkles.

How I Learned To Embrace My First Gray Hair, And Not Be Afraid Of It

I always thought age was only a number, but my subconscious has proven to have a mind of its own.

In my late 30s, when I looked in the mirror, I saw a 20-year-old younger version of me. I knew I was in my 30s, but it really didn’t feel like it. The reason for that was because I didn’t see myself as “old.”

I had lines underneath my eyes and a few wrinkles on the corners of my mouth, but nothing that would embarrass me from telling people my age. If anything, I loved telling people because I received compliments for looking young!

If you asked the young adult version of me, “old” was a descriptor used for people who had gray hair and wrinkly skin.

So when I woke up one morning and combed my hair, my entire world turned upside down. I wasn’t 40 anymore, I was a young girl and an old woman in a split second. It felt like time stood still, and I was peering into my past, while also envisioning my future.

Age wasn’t only a number, it was a stark reality. You could conceal it with hair dyes and products, but at the end of the day, gray will become your “natural” hair color. There is no going back to what you looked a month, five years, or a decade ago.

The rush of all the thoughts that came to my mind changed my life forever…

Prince William Surprises Everyone By Shaving His Head

For the first time in what seems like ages, Prince William has finally sported a new hairdo.

For the past decade, the future king of England has been styling his hair in a  short, cropped look, with his bald spot slowly emerging.

While thinning hair can be a sore spot for some men, William is able to joke about his lack of tresses.

In September, William visited the Spitalfields Crypt Trust, a charity that helps people recover from addiction and homelessness, where he made a joke with one of their hairstylists.

“I don’t have much hair, I can’t give you much business,” William he said to Taz Tabria, a stylist at the neighboring hair salon.

His wife, Kate Middleton has also joked about her husband’s lack of hair. In 2014, the couple traveled to Australia, where Middleton suggested he could wear a toupee made out of alpaca wool.

“The prince was interested in the alpaca, and as I showed it to them the princess said he should put it on his head,” Lyn Crejan, the farmer who showed the royal couple the wool, said during the visit, according to the BBC. “She said, ‘You need it more than me,’ and pointed to his head and he laughed.”

Well it looks like Duke of Cambridge eventually made his way to the barbershop as he debuted a fresh new look.

Madonna Posed With Her Daughter And It Has Everyone Doing A Double-Take

We know Madonna has never been one to stick to conventions, so it’s no surprise that that sentiment has rubbed off on her children.

Madonna and her 21-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon, who she had with Cuban actor Carlos Leon, shared a sweet moment on New Year’s Eve that has the internet talking.

It seems like just yesterday that Madonna was pregnant with Leon, who was named after the city of healing and miracles.

“At first I was a little bit shocked but then I thought, this is a little bit perfect because I’m getting two things I want more than anything, at the same time,” the pop icon shared with Oprah Winfrey in 1997 when she sat down for an interview.

Madonna, who was 38 at the time, couldn’t have been more thrilled about her new addition.

“When I look into my daughter’s eyes right now, I feel that I’m being healed,” Madonna said on Oprah all those years ago. “Because I didn’t have a mother that I could grow up looking into the eyes of, I couldn’t recognize myself in [my mom], I couldn’t see myself in her. So now I look into my daughter’s eyes and I see that recognition, and it is so extraordinary, that feeling, and I think that it is going to heal a lot of the pain that I felt growing up without a mother.”

Mother’s Day in 1996 was bittersweet for her, because she felt her baby girl kick for the first time, which brought joy she had never previously felt on the day.

Years later, in 1998, the “Material Girl” singer admitted that, “I feel like I’m starting my life all over in some ways. My daughter’s birth was like a rebirth for me.”

Motherhood has given the music icon an eye-opening experience about life.

“My daughter is a daily reminder of the issues I have to work on—being too consumed with the way I look and what people think of me, feeling insecure, all that stuff,” she shared with Oprah in 2004.

It wasn’t the celebrity resemblance that had people in an uproar over the mother-daughter photo, but the young woman’s choice of how she managed her body hair.

People Are Turning To Hair Tattoos In Order To Avoid Balding

Getting old sucks. Having to deal with aches, wrinkles, constant sickness, and if that isn’t bad enough, your hair also decides to just fall out.

No one likes having to deal with these side effects of aging, but unfortunately for some, they have to deal with it much sooner than anyone else.

This was the case for Mehtap Francis, who was already balding in her twenties felt like her whole life was slipping away as she kept losing hair with every passing year. Midway through her thirties, she had a noticeable bald patch, and at age 46 she said enough was enough.

“I felt so unhappy and my confidence really went,” she said. “I like to look nice but was constantly paranoid about my hair.”

Having tried many solutions earlier in her life, she was doubtful of what could be done. Hair pieces that she had glued on only made the problem worse, and no chemical or formula seemed to do anything to stop the hair loss.

That’s when she heard about scalp micropigmentation (SMP) procedure, which promised to make her look like new! For Francis, this sounded like a crazy experiment, but she decided to investigate.

What Does Your Hair Say About Your Health?

While we may all want to have shiny locks, it can be hard to maintain as we age. Even if your hair doesn’t look like it’s right out of a shampoo commercial, dull, limp strands could indicate a bigger health problem that you don’t want to ignore.

While both hair loss and graying hair are signs of aging, they could indicate something more serious.

A recent study has shown that men who had coronary artery disease were more likely to prematurely bald or go gray.

The participants in the group with a heart condition were found to experience male pattern baldness, as opposed to the healthy population.

Stress and certain medications can cause you to lose your hair, but usually it will regrow within six months.

If you notice your hair is dry, brittle or splits easily it could be an idication that you may be getting too much sun exposure. The effects are stronger with those who have light hair, including gray and blonde. If you already have thinning hair, being exposed to the sun without a hat increases your risk of sunburn on your scalp.

Here’s The Right Way To Get Gum Out Of Clothes, Hair, And Everything Else

We were all kids once, and remember wanting to tease our friends by pretending to put bubble gum in their hair at recess. Heck, me and my friend once had a prank war with chewing gum that ended in two ruined T-shirts for the both of us. Or so we thought.

Turns out, there’s a way to remove that stuck on mess from any sort of material. So put down the scissors and don’t throw out those shirts! Here’s the foolproof way to get-it-done.

First, grab an ice cube and apply pressure around the stuck-on gum. You’ll want to freeze it in order for it to harden and make it easy to remove as one piece.

If you find that it is still fairly bonded to the the article of clothing, then use some full-strength white vinegar to chemically soften the bottom while the rest stays firmly together. Scrape off the remaining gum after this.

But what about other fabrics and (God forbid) our hair?!

The Empowering Reason Why Jamie Lee Curtis Doesn’t Dye Her Hair Or Wear Heels

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but unfortunately this doesn’t always ring true for women in Hollywood. Just ask actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

At the height of her career, the Scream star struggled with maintaining the industry’s beauty ideals, and even went under the knife for some nip-and-tuck while in her thirties.

American Libraries Magazine

She hoped that a little bit of cosmetic surgery would help her keep her youthful appearance, but it wasn’t until she became addicted to the doctor-prescribed painkillers that she began to realize how wrong she had been.

“I’ve done it all. I’ve had a little plastic surgery. I’ve had a little lipo. I’ve had a little Botox. And you know what? None of it works. None of it,” Curtis said in a 2002 interview with Telegraph UK.

Curtis’s fear of loneliness, aging, and appearing different from her shapely character in Perfect drove her to increase her drinking, and before she knew it she was abusing alcohol on top of the pills.

Hollywood was not helping her in anyway, in fact, producers, directors, and cameramen only pushed her further down the rabbit hole by insisting that she keep up a certain look.

“Ten years ago, before anybody did that, I had fat taken from underneath my eyes because I was on a movie and I was puffy,” the actress recalled. “I remember the cameraman saying: ‘I can’t shoot her now’. I remember being mortified.”

Eventually, Curtis came to her senses and realized the toll her addiction and low self-esteem was taking on her life as well as her daughter’s. She voluntarily entered a rehab program, and has since made a lot of permanent changes to her appearance that allowed her to feel like herself.

He Donated His Hair To Help Cancer Patients, A Few Weeks Later He Became One

After spending two years growing his hair long enough to be donated to be made into a wig, a seven-year-old boy was able to help patients receiving treatment for cancer. A few weeks after making his donation, Vinny Desautels found out that he was going to need some help himself.

Vinny got his first mohawk just before his second birthday. By kindergarten he used temporary gel to change the color of his hair from its natural blonde to a shocking blue. At age five he decided to make a difference by growing it out to help children battling cancer.

The elementary school student chopped off 13 inches of hair in the hopes of helping kids who were fighting cancer.

“I want to help people so they don’t have to go to the doctors to fight cancer,” he said.

He was happy in that moment, asking for nothing in return.

In spite of being picked on, that didn’t change his course.

“During that time he was mistaken for a girl many times, but Vinny took it like a champ and was like, ‘Nah, I’m a boy,” Vinny’s dad, Jason Desautels, said.

In March, Vinny’s mother, Amanda Azevedo who is currently six months pregnant, praised her son for the sweet gesture he made.

“I am so proud to call this little man my son,” she wrote. “He has been growing out his hair for the past 2 years and I had the privilege of being the one to cut it for him. He’s been teased and mistaken for a girl several times but he stuck with it because he knew it was for a good cause. Vincent, I love you to the moon and back. You are the most selfless 7-year-old I have ever known.”

But life can take a cruel turn sometimes.
