Staff Volunteered To Sleep At The Hospital Past Their Regular Shifts To Care For Patients

Hospital staff are going out of their way to help an overwhelming amount of patients during a huge snow storm. Storm Emma is a snow storm taking over the UK.

This unusual storm has caused many people to have to go to the hospital. When the worst of this storm hit, many staff members of Royal Derby Hospital as well as other NHS hospital staff stayed overnight at the hospital, ensuring they were on hand to support patients throughout the duration of the crazy weather conditions.

The hospital originally offered its staff accommodation if they were worried about getting to and from work in the storm. They also organized a service to pick up any staff who were stuck in the snow.

What originally started as a help for the staff, turned into an opportunity for staff to do an immensely selfless act. A lot of the staff began sleeping at the hospital, even if they were able to get home.

They wanted to stay there to ensure the increasing number of patients were in good care.

This is what one nurse said about her act of kindness.

Homeless Patients Were Leaving The Hospital With No Clothes, Until This Nurse Stepped Up

A nurse from Miami is taking it into his own hands to ensure homeless patients are leaving the hospital with what they need.

Oliver Castellanos has been a nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Miami for almost 30 years.

He began to notice that whenever homeless patients were discharged from the hospital, they were left without the bare necessities they needed.

He said that he would often see homeless patients leaving the hospital with nothing but the paper gowns they were given while being treated.

That’s when Castellanos decided he wanted to make a difference. He started collecting clothes and shoes to keep at the hospital. He decided these would be the most beneficial items for the homeless patients.

He created a closet in the hospital, and whenever a homeless patient was being discharged, they would be given the appropriate clothing and shoes to leave in.

It began with a very small pile of clothes but once word got out, it began to grow very quickly.

Once word spread about his project, he began to receive clothing donations from his co-workers, as well as, people from his church, City Church.

This is how far he has come since the beginning:

Bill Paxton’s Family Take His Doctor To Court Over The Actor’s Sudden Death

The family of the late Hollywood actor Bill Paxton is taking his doctor and hospital to court.

Paxton’s widow and children blame them for causing the star’s death last year at the early age of 61, and have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

The world was stunned by news of Paxton’s death last February, when the actor was still appearing on the CBS series Training Day.

The star of hit films like Apollo 13, Titanic, Aliens, and HBO’s series Big Love suffered a stroke just 11 days after undergoing open heart surgery.

Now, Paxton’s family say his surgeron, Dr. Ali Khoynezhad, is to blame.

The news came on the anniversary of Paxton’s death, when his family accused the actor’s doctor of “misrepresenting and/or concealing information relating to the risks of surgery.”

In a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Khoynezhad and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, they make the case that Paxton’s death was “tragic and preventable.”

And the details of their case are so sad.

Nurse Called In Sick To Protect Patients, But She Got Fired Instead

The United States is experiencing an epidemic of the flu the likes of which hasn’t been seen since 2003. It’s even worse than the swine flu outbreak that happened a decade ago, and while there haven’t been quite as many casualties, the fact remains that thousands of people have been suffering from the condition over the last few months.

WebMD

Naturally this has led to a massive increase in doctor and hospital visits, both to seek diagnosis and treatment of the disease, as well as to receive doctor’s notes where required.

As it stands, quite a few businesses and employers require their employees to back up their claims of being sick with a paid note, or else they risk having their employment terminated.

However, some businesses don’t seem to even want to permit their workers to call in sick for legitimate reasons, and the latest to commit this offense is, shockingly, a hospital…

E! News Anchor Maria Menounos Opens Up About Life Since Her Brain Tumor

“Whenever I’m not feeling well, I’ll feel my scar to remind me to slow down,” Maria Menounos told Women’s Health.

The 39-year-old former E! News Host has opened up about her life since she underwent a risky surgery to remove a brain tumor six months ago.

Nearly a year after her mother, Litsa, was diagnosed with a brain tumor, she found herself receiving a diagnosis that would change her life.

Today

The overworked, overscheduled, self-described “superachiever” had to learn to slow down her life and know when to take it easy. That was not a simple task for someone who has only known two speeds: fast and faster.

“I was on top of everything. I would know when your birthday was and make sure you had your flowers. I was everything to everyone, but nothing to myself. I didn’t know it at the time, but there was no self-compassion, no self-love. I didn’t think I deserved it. I was too busy being, like, ‘Shit! I’ve got to get to my five o’clock appointment, then my seven o’clock, then feed the dogs, and, oh my god, I’ve got to wake up and do this and this… ‘ I had become a machine,” she admitted.

The E! News host was diagnosed with a benign meningioma brain tumor .

Maria had the surgery to remove a brain tumor the size of a golf ball, but she is still feeling the after affects. The surgery couldn’t have gone better, however. They were able to remove 99.9 percent of the tumor.

“After six days in the hospital, I came home. The love I got from people I’ve worked with and interviewed over the years was unreal. Then, with nothing to do but stay in bed, I had plenty of time to think,” she said.

In an interview with Megyn Kelly, she admitted that her diagnosis was actually “a gift” and made it an intention to change certain parts of her life because of it.

Baby Born With Heart Outside Her Body Undergoes First Surgery

A baby born with her heart outside of her body has survived a series of three risky operations.

Vanellope Hope Wilkins was born on Nov. 22 with no breast bone. She was delivered by caesarean section in Leicester, England, after her parents discovered she was suffering from the rare condition called ectopia cordis, BBC reports.

Vanellope’s parents, Naomi Findlay, 31, and Dean Wilkins, 41, said they were initially scared over their daughter’s diagnosis.

“It was a real shock when the ultrasound showed that her heart was outside her chest and scary because we didn’t know what would happen,” Findlay said.

Wilkins said when the condition was discovered, doctors advised the couple to terminate the pregnancy. The couple decided against it, as a blood test showed there were no chromosomal abnormalities.

“We were advised to have a termination and that the chances of survival were next to none – no one believed she was going to make it except us,” he said.

Findlay added she couldn’t abort her pregnancy in good conscience.

“To see, even at nine weeks, a heartbeat – no matter where it was. It was not something I was going to take away.” she said. “In a way her strength gave me a strength to keep going.”

Vanellope was delivered nearly a month early in an effort for doctors to mitigate the risk of her of infection and damage to the heart.

Less than an hour later, she was taken into her first surgery.

5-Year-Old Church Shooting Survivor Wants You To Send Him A Christmas Card

The family of a little boy who lived through a horrible experience needs your help to give him a merry Christmas this year.

The 5-year-old has already been through more surgeries and treatments than most adults to help him recover. He was put on life support machines, including a breathing tube, had a stint placed in his kidney, and needed skin grafts. Ryland will also need to use a wheelchair for months once he’s sent home from the hospital.

While his family expected Ryland would be home for Christmas, trouble with the young boy’s kidney and shattered femur mean he’ll spend the holidays in a hospital bed.

The church in Sutherland Springs was decorated to honor the shooting victims.Bloomberg

Ryland’s grandmother, Sandy Ward, reveals that he hasn’t even heard the worst news yet. “They still haven’t told him yet that his mom and sisters are dead,” she explained to KSAT 12, “but I’m sure he’s kind of getting some kind of idea because he’s 5.”

It’s clear that this tough little guy could use a Christmas pick-me-up, and his family wants your help to make his holidays merry and bright.

Charles Manson Rushed To Hospital And “It’s Just A Matter Of Time”

Notorious leader of one of the deadliest cults in the history of the United States has reportedly been rushed to a local hospital, and his condition is very severe.

Manson has been in prison since 1971 after he was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, and one count of conspiracy to murder after he and the members of the “Manson Family” went on a gruesome killing spree in Los Angeles in the 1960s. They were trying to incite a race war he called “Helter Skelter.”

Digital Journal

While he was only charged for the deaths of Aibgail Ann Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, Steven Earl Parent, Sharon Tate Polanski, Jay Sebring, and Leno and Rosemary La Bianca, his cult was also responsible for a number of other crimes, including theft, assaults, and the attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford.

Mason later received additional convictions for the murder of musician Gary Hinman and Donald Jerome “Shorty” Shea. He was sentenced to death, but when the death penalty was ruled unconstitutional in 1972, he was re-sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.

People

He filed for parole multiple times, but was denied every time. In 2012, he was turned down for the 12th time, after the panel noted that Manson had 108 violations, didn’t understand the magnitude of his crimes, and showed no remorse. He wouldn’t be eligible for another hearing until 2027.

Due to his dangerous nature and failure to be a model prisoner, Manson has been living in a separate cell in the Protective Housing Unit at California State Prison. According to reports, he has been cited for “assault, repeated possession of a weapon, threatening staff and possessing a cellphone.”

However, it seems like staff at the correctional facility may not have to deal with Manson’s shenanigans much longer because he has become too weak. Manson was hospitalized back in January for severe gastrointestinal bleeding, and was scheduled to undergo surgery, but he was deemed too fragile for the procedure and sent back to prison.

Ten months later, the convicted criminal is back in the hospital, but this time his condition is said to be worsening.
