Check out These Cutting Board Hacks! Not Just for Cutting Veggies!

Do you have some extra cutting boards sitting in your cupboard that you don’t seem to use anymore? Well, if so, here are some awesome hacks you need to check out! Bring a new life to your old cutting board with these tiny DIY add ons!

  • 1 cutting board
  • 2 pieces of wood
  • sandpaper
  • pencil
  • gorilla glue
  1. Measure the width of your sofas arm rest.
  2. Get 2 cutting boards in the shape/size you like that is already finished from your local dollar store. You could also use an old cutting board you already have at home.
  3. Cut one of the boards in half width wise.
  4. Use your sandpaper to smooth the edges of all wood pieces.
  5. Place the top board face down, and mark the measured width of your arm rest centred on the cutting board width wise.
  6. Using a liberal amount, apply glue to the inside cut edges of the cut cutting board and place on the outside of your marked lines. Placing on the outside of the marked lines allows for the full width of the armrest to fit snugly between both boards.
  7. The glue will dry within one minute, however, it is best to allow the glue to fully dry in this position overnight.
  8. Paint and decorate as you wish!
  • cutting board
  • 2 drawer handles
  • screws
  1. Place cutting board with the face side up.
  2. Align handle on the centre the width end, about 1 inch inward. Repeat on other side. Mark the screw holes lightly with a pencil.
  3. Remove handle and create light drill holes in the marked spots.
  4. Place the handle back and attach with screws.
  5. VOILA! You now have your very own DIY serving tray!
  • plastic cutting board
  • hot glue gun
  1. Select your size of cutting board, and using your hot glue gun create different shaped designs in lines all the way down the board.
  2. Allow glue to dry and harden.
  3. Using lukewarm water and soap, dip your makeup brushes into the water and then slide up and down against the cutting board to loosen, remove, and wash your brushes from leftover makeup.

This Make-Up Artist Uses Real Bugs For Her Looks And It Is Disturbing

One artist is making most people’s biggest fear into a new make-up trend.

A make-up artist based out of California is creating designs on her models, using real bugs. The make-up artist, Jasmine, is using bugs such as butterflies, spiders, worms, and crickets to create one-of-a-kind make-up looks.

For her models’s sake, Jasmine only uses dead bugs. She also probably does this because some of the insects she works with are dangerous species.

She calls this new artwork The Insect Eyes Art Series, which was launched in November. She uses her Instagram – ButterlyJasmine49 – to release new looks.

She continuously expresses to her follows that she has the “Utmost respect” for the creatures she uses. She also said, in a statement: “I understand if this is gross to you or you have a hard time understanding this type of art, but this is a bi-product of MY creativity. Commentators that choose to bully will not be tolerated.”

L’Oreal Breaks History By Casting First Hijab-Wearing Ambassador

L’Oreal has made beauty industry history by casting a hijab-wearing ambassador for their latest campaign.

The beauty company has hired British beauty blogger Amena Khan to show its inclusivity for anyone who wants to wear makeup. L’Oreal has previously shown its stance on diversity by featuring male makeup ambassadors, extending its foundation shade range, and other products to compliment all skin tones.

While many people in society associate hair with beauty, Khan said beauty is more about how you feel, as opposed to how you look.

“Whether or not your hair is on display doesn’t affect how much you care about it,” Khan said.

L’Oreal’s newest ambassador is also promoting Elvive, a line of hair products that revitalizes damaged tresses. Khan told Vogue it’s a massive deal a Muslim woman has been cast in the campaign.

“You have to wonder – why is it presumed that women (who) don’t show their hair don’t look after it?” Khan said. “The opposite of that would be that everyone who does show their hair only looks after it for the sake of showing it to others. And that mindset strips us of our autonomy and our sense of independence. Hair is a big part of self-care.”

After announcing she a part of L’Oreal’s latest campaign, Khan said it’s a move in the right direction.

The Internet Is Divided Over This Viral Video Of A Girl Putting On Her Own Makeup

There has been a fierce debate over beauty and issues with women’s self-esteem these last few years, and it seems that the latest battleground was over a little girl’s video that went viral over the holidays.

When 3-year-old Liriana released a makeup tutorial shortly before Christmas, her biggest problem was whether or not her eye shadow was applied properly (it was).

Liraina is the daughter of Instagram user Suella, who has many videos of her playing with her brother, Dilan, and putting on makeup.

“She does her own makeup from start to finish,” says Suella. “I just sit there and record her while she does her own thing. She loves to copy everything that I do. Literally everything has to match with me: our outfits, makeup, hair.”

Liriana is certainly skillful at makeup application, expertly using her concealer, eye shadow, mascara, blush, and lipstick before blowing a kiss to her viewers. It was immediately popular across the social sharing network, with a ton of praise from users.

To Suella, it was just another amazing video that her daughter put out, and she could not have been more proud when other notable accounts asked if they could share her post on their feeds!

The post has amassed over 500,000 views and 1000 comments, however, not all of them are supportive. In fact, many of them are downright hurtful.

Claire’s Recalls 17 Products After They Test Positive For Asbestos

Just weeks after we got some nasty news about the bacteria lurking on makeup testers, Claire’s is recalling 17 of their products.

The recall is the result of some impressive research by one Rhode Island mom who was curious about the ingredients in her 6-year-old daughter’s makeup kits. Kristie Warner sent a sample of her daughter’s makeup bought at Claire’s to an independent lab, and was stunned by the results.

One of the makeup sets tested by the Scientific Analytical InstituteWJAR

The product tested positive for tremolite asbestos, a variety of the toxic mineral which is known to cause health conditions including lung cancer, mesothelioma and a kind of lung scarring called asbestosis.

“I physically sank,” Warner said about getting the results back. “I ended up sitting on the ground, just trying to wrap my head around how something like that could end up in our home.”

Surprisingly, results like these aren’t unheard of either. A few months ago makeup from Justice tested positive for asbestos, before third-party testing debunked those results.

WJAR

But Warner says she’s confident that the Scientific Analytical Institute, which tested both her products and the ones from Justice, has the results right this time.

The lab compared 17 samples from nine different states, each of which tested positive for asbestos.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to nasty surprises hiding in your makeup.

Researchers Tested Makeup Store Samples, And The Results Will Disgust You

It’s hard to imagine a makeup store without testers, those little free samples of products that let customers try new products before they buy them.

But a new investigation has revealed the ugly truth about these free samples, and if you’re still using them, this story might change your mind. You may remember that a woman is already suing the chain of Sephora makeup stores after claiming she caught the herpes virus while sampling lipstick.

Andreas Rentz

It’s a strange claim, but viruses like herpes can survive for up to a week on makeup products, and dermatologists say the woman’s story is believable.

In the lawsuit, the woman is blaming the store for not warning her about the risk of catching herpes from the samples. She’s also suing the store for emotional distress caused by her diagnosis.

FangirlsAreWe

If that story didn’t scare you away from testers, this one might. A team of investigative journalists swabbed testers are three different stores – Macy’s, Sephora, and Ulta – and uncovered some disgusting results.

We’re warning you: this story is not pretty.

A Woman Is Suing Sephora For Giving Her Herpes

A woman is suing Sephora for emotional distress following a herpes diagnosis.

She claims she sampled a tester lipstick at the high-end cosmetics store in October 2015, resulting in the arrival of herpes on her lips. The woman says she was diagnosed with the life-long disease by medical professionals.

She says she never had herpes or cold sores prior to her Sephora visit.

According to the documents reported by TMZ, Sephora “failed to clearly warn the woman and other customers of the risk of getting herpes or other diseases from trying on the lipstick samples.”

The woman says if she had known about the possibility of obtaining an infection from the makeup, she would’ve avoided the tester products at all costs.

The woman claims other lipstick companies have proven methods to prevent any exposure to viral diseases.
