A Look At The Royal Succession Order, And Where Harry Falls On The List

Let’s face the reality here, Queen Elizabeth is not getting any younger. The long-reigning monarch has served as Queen for 66 years, taking the throne after her father passed away in February of 1952.

The Coronation

But as she nears her 92nd birthday, a lot of people are wondering who will take her spot. Of course, next in line would be Prince Charles, her son, but a lot of people wonder if he might abdicate his throne to Prince William.

“[Charles] wants his son to have the chance of a family life before he takes up the burden of kingship – a King has no family life as it is so restricting,” Ingrid Seward, editor-in-cheif of Majesty says.

So before it’s time to name another ruler in England, let’s take a look at the current succession order, and what it means for our beloved Prince Harry.

Former Police Officer Reveals Secret Assassination Attempt On Queen Elizabeth II

A former police officer has revealed Queen Elizabeth II was a victim of an assassination attempt.

Retired Dunedin detective Tom Lewis said the Queen was almost murdered by 17-year-old Christopher John Lewis in Dunedin, New Zealand during a diplomatic trip in 1981.

According to the Independent, Lewis fired a .22 rifle at the monarch when she stepped out of her royal motorcade to greet a roaring crowd.

The bullet had narrowly missed the Queen’s head, and while the audience had reportedly heard the gunshot, authorities maintained at the time it was the sound of a council sign falling over.

“You will never get a true file on that, it was reactivated, regurgitated, bits pulled off it, other false bits put on it,” Tom said. “They were in damage control so many times.”

Lewis said the New Zealand government had covered up the assassination attempt in fear she would boycott the country and cause deep embarrassment,Daily Mail reported.

The police failed to charge the teenager with treason – which if found guilty, would have made him eligible for the death penalty – because they had received an order from “up top.”

Murray Hanan, Christopher’s former lawyer said: “The fact an attempted assassination of the Queen had taken place in New Zealand… it was too politically hot to handle. I think the government took the view that he is a bit nutty and has had a hard upbringing, so it won’t be too harsh.”

Christopher later claimed in his unpublished autobiography that he had been told in interrogation to never speak about the event. He said the police had threatened him should he not follow their orders.

“If I was ever to mention the events surrounding my interviews of the organisation … they would make sure I ‘suffered a fate worse than death,'” he wrote.

Christopher was later charged with possession of a firearm in a public place and discharging it, a significant downgrade from treason.

However, this wouldn’t be the attempted murderer’s only brush with the law.

Queen Elizabeth II Fires Royal Bra-Fitter Following Release Of Tell-All Memoir

Queen Elizabeth II has fired her official bra-fitter after she wrote an autobiography involving her professional relationship with the royal family.

After nearly 60 years of service, the Queen’s official lingerie supplier Rigby & Peller has been stripped of its royal warrant after (the company’s board member and former owner) June Kenton, 82, released a tell-all memoir of her career, dubbed Storm in a D-Cup.

A royal warrant of appointment is a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to members of the royal family, which only about 800 businesses have.

On Jan. 10, the Royal Warrant Holders Association confirmed to PEOPLE that Kenton’s longstanding relationship with the British monarch had ended last year, which was during the same time frame the book came out.

“I never thought when I was writing the book that it would upset anyone,” Kenton said. “I’ve had the royal warrant for so long, I never imagined that this would happen. It’s horrible and a real shock.”

But Kenton wasn’t the only one to speak out on the surprise dismissal.

Meghan Markle’s Christmas Gift To The Queen Left Her Majesty In Hysterics

With Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding less than four months away, the future royal is quickly getting herself acquainted with her fiancé’s family.

When Queen Elizabeth II invited Markle to Sandringham for Christmas, she broke a precedent even Kate Middleton was unable to accomplish. In the past, only spouses of the royal family were welcomed to celebrate the holiday at the Queen’s private home, and when the Duchess of Cambridge was engaged to Prince William she was no exception.

As reported, Markle’s first Christmas with the royals went off without a hitch, with Harry even claiming they have become the “family she never had” – much to the chagrin of Markle’s half sister, Samantha Grant.

But as we all know, one of the most challenging parts of the holidays is finding the perfect gift for those we care for, and even more so for the ones we are trying to impress.

While details of what kind of gifts the royal family exchanged were scarce, we found out Middleton gifted the Queen with her homemade “marrow chutney,” a family recipe passed down from her own grandmother.

“I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody,” the Duchess of Cambridge said.

Now a fortnight later, Markle’s gift to the Queen has become public knowledge, and it did not disappoint.

Queen Elizabeth Reveals The “Horrible” Journey To Her Coronation

If you heard someone say how hard it is being a royal, your first reaction might be to scoff. I mean, you would think that the most blessed people in the world right now are the members of the British monarchy.

They get to live in a big palace, hang out with famous celebrities, see all sorts of movies for free before anyone else, and generally look stylish.

But you may be surprised to hear that it isn’t all fun and games to be at the head of one of the largest superpowers in the world. In fact, when you think about it, there’s a lot of responsibility that goes into representing a country of over 50 million people.

Not only that, but all those public engagements include the ones that are hard to get through.

You don’t often hear members of the royal family complain about their duties, which is why it was so strange for the Queen to reveal parts of her coronation that she found difficult to deal with.

When Elizabeth was born she was not expected to rise to the throne. Her uncle Edward, the Prince of Wales was young and next in line for the rule of the country. However, when he decided to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson, he sparked a constitutional crisis and abdicated the throne in order to bring peace to the government.

Her father, the Duke of York, now King George VI, reigned for just over 15 years until his death. Since he never fathered a son, Elizabeth was his heir presumption, and a year later was sworn in as Queen.

Her childhood involved active studying, as well as working with the army as a driver and mechanic, eventually attaining the rank of junior commander at age 20.

Through the years, Elizabeth learnt how to handle herself in public as a member of the royal family, but also as a normal person.

When the Second World War in Europe ended, Elizabeth and her sister Margaret asked their parents if they could go and celebrate with the crowds of people.

“I remember lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, all of us just swept along on a tide of happiness and relief,” said Elizabeth.

But all this experience didn’t mean that she was prepared for everything that her coronation would hand to her.

Queen Elizabeth II Set To Welcome Another Great Grandchild To The Royal Brood

However, the royal family is expected to get even bigger as another one of her grandchildren is expecting another bundle of joy.

Zara Tindall – the daughter of Princess Anne – announced on Jan. 5 that she and her husband, Mike, are expecting a child sometime this summer. This will be the second child for the Olympic medalist and the former rugby star, as they are already parents to their three-year-old daughter, Mia Grace. This will be the Queen’s seventh grandchild, and 19th in line for the throne.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen and members of the royal family were very pleased to hear this news.”

The joyous announcement comes a little more than a year after the couple faced a devastating loss.

Man Suffering From Rare Condition Hears ‘God Save The Queen’ On Repeat

An 87-year-old man is suffering from a bizarre condition which forces him to hear “God Save the Queen” a staggering 1,700 times a week.

Ron Goldspink from Hull, England has been diagnosed with Musical Ear Syndrome. The condition causes individuals who suffer from hearing loss to experience musical auditory hallucinations.

“It started about three or four months ago. The version I hear is sung by a male choir,” he said.

The pensioner had previously believed he heard the UK’s national anthem coming from the residence of his next door neighbor, The Sun reports.

“I complained about my next door neighbor who I thought was playing music and keeping me awake at night,” Goldspink said. “My son complained to the council, and when they came down I told them I could hear this music coming from through the wall every night.

“They went next door and my neighbor said they were not playing anything, and I realized it was just me that could hear it,” he said.

While the condition often affects those with tinnitus, Goldspink said he was stunned when he contracted the ailment.
