Heartbreaking Study Shows The Tragic Impact Of Robin Williams’s Death

On August, 11, 2014, the world woke up to the devastating news that beloved actor, comedian, and philanthropist Robin Williams had died.

The 63-year-old actor endured a lifelong battle with mental illness and substance abuse, and unfortunately it culminated in him taking his own life. Williams was found unresponsive inside his home in Paradise Cay, California after hanging himself, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Contrary to popular belief, Williams did not take his life because he suffered from manic-depression. His widow, Susan Schneider, revealed that her husband actually suffered from Lewy body dementia (LBD). She described the disease as “chemical warfare in the brain” and that “no one could have done anything more for Robin.”

Lewy body is a form of difficult-to-diagnose dementia with symptoms such as slowed motor function, depression and hallucinations.

As expected, Williams’s sudden demise took quite a toll on his family. His daughter, actress Zelda, took time out of the spotlight to grieve, and didn’t publicly speak about her father for nearly a year after the tragedy.

On the first anniversary of the prolific entertainer’s passing, his son, Zak, told People that the family was still “moving through the process of healing and recovering.”

It’s been nearly four years since Williams passed, but the heartbreaking impact it has had on the rest of society is only coming to light now.

Dwayne Johnson Describes Saving His Mom From Committing Suicide As A Teenager

Dwayne Johnson, the actor better known by his pro wrestling alter ego “The Rock,” shared an emotional Instagram post that had his fans reaching for tissues this week.

In the past, Johnson has shared memories about his mother, Ata Johnson, on social media. While it’s clear the giant actor loves his devoted mom, things weren’t always easy for the movie star’s family.

When Johnson was growing up, his father (who was also a wrestler) saw his career decline. Last year at Thanksgiving, Johnson remembered that his family was once too poor to even celebrate the holiday.

“We couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner and was praying someone would invite us over their house to eat,” Johnson told his fans on Instagram.

After we bowed our heads in prayer, we went around the table and everyone shared what they were thankful for. Beautiful seeing and listening to everyone speak from their heart. Tears, laughter and boundless gratitude. Personally, I’m a little surprised no one expressed how thankful they were that THE Sexiest Man Alive (I refuse to relinquish my title to Blake Shelton or any man) was sitting at the table. I didn’t want to be a dick and interrupt the prayer, but at some point someones gotta address the elephant in the room. Jokes aside, it was a very special Thanksgiving. As my mom pointed out earlier in the day, there was a time back in ‘87 when we couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner and was praying someone would invite us over their house to eat. We were in a tough spot back then, but we got thru it. And here we are today. One big, extended, blended, slightly crazy, loving, grateful ohana. #sib ❤️🥁💫

“We were in a tough spot back then, but we got thru it.”

On Mother’s Day last year, the actor shared another emotional photo of his mother crying on his private airplane. He revealed that, when he was just 14, his family had been evicted from their home, and had their car repossessed, so his mother was simply overwhelmed by her son’s success.

“And y’all know when our parents tell us they’re happy, its so satisfying for us,” Johnson wrote, “’cause it means we’ve done a good job for them as their kids.”

But, earlier this week, Johnson remembered another unhappy memory about his mom, and the time he had to stop her from taking her own life.

He Offered His Belongings For Someone To Kill Him. Instead, People Chose To Save Him.

As much as we hate to admit it, suicide is a regular occurrence in our society, and oftentimes it’s hard to even know what to do about it.

Radio Monash

Studies show that nearly 90% of people with suicidal thoughts suffer from some form of mental illness, be it as treatable as anxiety or clinical depression, or something more serious such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder or even post-traumatic stress disorder.

While not all of them end up acting on it, it’s an unfortunate phenomenon that will only continue as long as we don’t offer up aid to those who are suffering.

Science and medicine have fortunately come a long way in treating conditions like this, and there are plenty of both medical and psychological solutions to these conditions, such as taking medication or going to counseling.

Unfortunately, it can often be difficult for people suffering from these conditions to seek help, as they may either feel like they don’t deserve it, or it may be too expensive for them to afford, or they might not even truly realize that what they’re feeling isn’t normal.

It’s times like this that people suffering can often use a helping hand, and in the case of one man from Australia, things had really reached a critical point: he was literally advertising for someone to kill him.

Rick Springfield Opens Up About Having Suicidal Tendencies

Rick Springfield, best known for his chart-topping hits and roles in a number of movies and television shows, was just 17 years old in 1968 when he landed the opportunity to perform for U.S. troops in Vietnam.

However, during his time there, the Americans came under attack, and Springfield had to help load mortars so they could defend themselves. Unfortunately, one of these explosives killed a Viet Cong soldier.

Once Springfield returned home, he tried to move on, and his big break came in 1972 when he arrived in the U.S. He quickly became a teen heartthrob with a string of hits under his belt. His career stalled for a while, but he made a comeback with his 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl” and in that same year, he joined the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital as Dr. Noah Drake.

Despite all of his success, the Australian-born entertainer struggled with depression and suicidal tendencies, which were further fueled by the guilt of killing a man and the pressures of fame.

“That was a war situation but it is still something that to this day sends a shiver down my spine,” Springfield said.

Decades later, Springfield is still experiencing some dark periods, and recently opened up about his battle.

Tow Truck Driver Saves Crying Woman From Committing Suicide On Highway Overpass

January and February are often considered some of the most depressing months of the year, and it’s easy to see why. The holidays have come and gone and everyone’s cheer has faded, leaving several months left of winter chill, short days, and for many people, more time away from their families.

Imgur

Winter can easily be one of the harshest times of year to live in if you’re in an area regularly affected by the snow and cold. Everything feels like a much bigger task to do thanks to the amount you need to bundle up, the often terrible driving conditions, and just how cold and hard to travel it is in the snow.

Marion Post Wolcott

This has even gotten to the point where mental health experts have diagnosed more and more people with Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, a disorder where people pre-disposed to depressive thoughts have them amplified by the season.

Access Health

While there are a wide variety of treatments available for many of the aforementioned conditions, unfortunately, many people who suffer from depression and anxiety still opt to suffer in silence. When combined with factors like SAD, it often leads to a notable increase in the number of suicides in January and February, meaning everyone needs to pay extra careful attention to those close to them.

It also results in situations like this one from Woodbridge, ON, Canada, when a tow truck driver happened upon a woman who was about to take her own life…

Robin Williams’s Widow Reveals The Actor’s Last Words In An Emotional Interview

It’s been a little over three years since the world lost beloved actor, comedian, and philanthropist Robin Williams. The entertainer, who endured a lifelong battle with mental illness and substance abuse, was only 63-years-old when he was found dead inside his home after hanging himself.

Yahoo.com

While the world has come to know him as one of the most talented and funniest screen legends, to his family he was so much more than that. Williams was a loving husband to his wife, Susan Schneider, and a doting father to his three children, including actress Zelda Williams.

So as you can imagine, it took a while for the family to publicly address their loss. Nearly a year after her father’s death, Zelda opened up in an interview with Today.

“People should remember what they want to remember of him. Who am I to guide what their childhood memories are of watching his movies,” Zelda said. “I have mine [memories] and they are mine and I love that. And they are private and lovely and perhaps very different, but who knows what the difference is. They have their memories. They should enjoy them. They’re not going anywhere. The world, as I said, keeps spinning, but that doesn’t mean that he was never on it.”

The Hollywood Reporter

She said she was “taking it one step at the time,” and won’t be questioning why Williams took his life.

However, prior to Zelda’s chat with Today, her step-mother had broken her silence in an emotional interview with Good Morning America, just three months after Williams’s untimely death.

In her first interview since her loss, Schneider opened up about Williams’s illness and his final words to her.

Angelina Jolie Confesses That She Once Hired A Hitman To Kill Her

Years ago, before her highly publicized marriage to Brad Pitt and adoption of multiple children, Angelina Jolie went through an extremely dark period of time.

According to celebrity biographer Andrew Morton, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star’s troubled childhood screwed her up badly.

“This book tells the true story of her life, the one where, as a little baby, she was on the fifth floor on a crib because her mother couldn’t bear to look at her because she reminded her of Jon Voight, her husband who had left her for another woman,” wrote Morton.

The Today Show

In addition to that, she allegedly experimented with drugs, and cut herself to feel better. Morton added, “And that’s a sense of release and for most of us, it’s weird but for someone like Angelina, who’s in this psychological trauma, it’s a release.”

There were also rumors swirling about her whirlwind marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton, as well as the strange relationship with her brother (they were caught kissing on multiple different occasions).

These allegations haunted the actress as she auditioned for the role of Lara Croft in the 2001 action film Tomb Raider. Her father, actor Jon Voight, and Jabe Fonda warned then-chairwoman of Paramount Pictures, Sherry Lansing, about Jolie’s “baggage,” and as as a result she was subjected to a drug test.

“Look, I want to do it, but I know what my reputation is, and I’ll do anything you want to prove that I’m worthy,” Jolie told the film’s director, according to an excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ll be reliable, and I’ll turn up, and I’ll work hard. I don’t care if the studio wants to drug test me every day.”

The Paramount executives were also concerned about Jolie’s physical and mental well-being, so they also hired a team of professionals to help her. The movie went on to become a box-office success, earning $275 million worldwide on its opening weekend. It also helped set up Jolie, who was 24-years-old at the time, to become one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood.

But despite her overnight success, she was still battling an inner demon, and contemplated taking her life in the most shocking way.

He Paid For A Stranger’s Coffee, And Wound Up Saving His Life

Glen Oliver has a small ritual that helped one stranger in a very big way.

Four years ago, Oliver was in line for coffee behind someone who didn’t have enough change for their purchase. He covered their bill instead, and ever since he’s made a habit of “paying it forward” whenever he’s at the coffee shop.

Kristy Cambron

Whether he just buys a coffee for the next person in line, or leaves $10 with the cashier, Oliver says his charitable habit is “the least I can do.” He always gives his treats away anonymously, but he has a signature: he always asks the cashier to tell the next customer “Have a great day.”

Oliver says that last part is just in case the customer is “not having one already,” but it’s exactly what a stranger needed to hear this summer.

CNN

In a letter to the local newspaper, the Pickering News Advertiser, an anonymous person said they were suicidal, and planned to end their life last July. But on their planned last day, the letter’s writer stopped for a coffee.

Before they could pay, the clerk told them, “The nice man already paid for it and he said to have a great day.”

Former DWTS Contestant Opens Up About Past Suicide Attempt

We all face dark times in our lives, and how we handle them makes us who we are.

Chief meteorologist for ABC News and Good Morning America, Ginger Zee, has confessed that she attempted to take her own life when she was just 21 years old.

“I’d lost all hope,” Zee said of her mindset. “I just shut down. It wasn’t worth living. I was wasting people’s time and space.”

The now 36-year-old familiar face had to weather many storms before landing her dream career.

“My professional life, in a strange way, has always been going up, up, up, while my personal life was just the complete opposite,” she says.

Shortly after graduating from Valparaiso University in Indiana, Zee admitted that she took every pill she could find in her medicine cabinet. Her then-roomate and ex-boyfriend realized what she had done and got her to the hospital.  The mix, that included Benadryl and other pills turned out to be non-lethal, thankfully.

It was this suicide attempt that lead to her diagnosis of depression.

“Depression for me has been a couple of different things — but the first time I felt it, I felt helpless, hopeless and things I had never felt before. I lost myself and my will to live,” Zee said. “It doesn’t matter what’s relative to another person’s tragedy, or whatever it is that’s making you feel low. In that moment, my brain, and probably a chemical somewhere within me, said, ‘You need to kill yourself.’ The only voices I could hear were telling me, ‘You are not worth it.’”

Now that Zee is a mother her perspective has changed and she is no longer shying away from her past.

‘Young And The Restless’ Star Shares Update After Suicidal Crisis

Kristoff St. John, best known for playing Neil Winters on the long-running soap opera The Young and The Restless, has been dealing with some heavy personal issues over the last few years.

St. John lost his 24-year-old son, Julian, in 2014 after he committed suicide while getting treatment at a hospital in Long Beach, California.

Following Julian’s untimely passing, the grieving father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital for failing to protect his son, who battled schizophrenia and was considered a high risk patient.

Since then, St. John and his ex-wife, Mia, have been trying to raise awareness for mental health, and they have also taken to social media on a few occasions to share tributes and celebrate Julian’s short life.

Despite the amount of time that has passed, and all the sweet tributes, St. John has struggled to come to terms with his loss. In an interview with ET Online, the actor said that he was “still angry.”

Unfortunately, St. John’s anger and pain forced him to take some drastic measures, and this past October, TMZ reported that the Emmy Award-winning actor was transported to a hospital after he allegedly threatened to kill himself.

TMZ

According to the reports, the actor had allegedly threatened to commit suicide with a gun just a month shy of the anniversary of his son’s death. St. John allegedly sent photos of himself holding a gun to his head to a former lover, who then alerted the cops.

Police confiscated two guns from the actor and took to him to a hospital, where he was to be held under a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation.

At the time neither St John nor any of the parties involved have commented on the situation, but now, the actor himself has finally shared an update on his health.

Kelly Clarkson Reveals She Was Contemplating Suicide At The Height Of Her Fame

It’s no secret that Hollywood favors certain body shapes and sizes over others, and sometimes, no matter how much talent one has, body image seems to play a more important role, just ask Kelly Clarkson.

Entertainment Tonight

The singer and first ever American Idol winner has been known to shut down body-shamers for commenting on her appearance. Just this past Fourth of July, she was forced to reply to a tweet calling her fat because she understood how a mean comment like that “might impact other people,” especially her young fans who may not have skin as thick as she does.

“I need you to know words are powerful and have weight and gravity to them. So that’s why I do it — but I also love being a smart ass,” explained Clarkson in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

However, she wasn’t always as tough as she is now.

Clarkson struggled with self-image issues throughout her career. When she first broke into the scene, she was urged by some of the industry’s decision makers to stay as skinny as possible, and although she tried to keep up, it took a huge toll on her physical and mental health.

The 35-year-old pop star revealed in an interview with Attitude magazine that at one point she went through an extremely dark period during which she contemplated suicide.

‘Young And The Restless’ Star Hospitalized For Suicidal Crisis

Despite being a successful actor and star of the highest rated daytime show, Kristoff St John has been dealt a rough hand over the last few years.

St John, who plays Neil Winters on The Young and The Restless, lost his 24-year-old son, Julian, in 2014 after he committed suicide while getting treatment at a hospital in Long Beach, California.

“Our son was the light of our lives, an artist with a beautiful mind and spirit,” Julian’s mom and St John’s ex-wife, Mia, wrote in a statement shortly after her son’s death. “He fought long and hard against an illness for which there is no cure.”

The grieving father filed a wrongful death suit against the hospital for failing to protect his son, who battled Schizophrenia and was considered a high risk patient.

It’s been nearly three years since Julian’s untimely departure, and St John has been struggling to come to terms with his loss. In an interview with ET Online, the actor said that he was “still angry.”

Unfortunately, the situation appears to have escalated.

On October 19, TMZ reported that the Emmy-award winning actor was transported to the hospital after he allegedly threatened to kill himself.

Jim Carrey Alleges His Late Girlfriend Forged STD Results

It appears that Jim Carrey’s legal woes are far from over after an explosive new motion was filed on Friday in a Los Angeles court room.

Carrey is claiming that his late girlfriend Cathriona White forged STD test results prior to her attempt to extort the actor.

Those same files are being used in the wrongful death case filed against Carrey by White’s mother, Brigid Sweetman and estranged husband, Mark Burton.

The Hollywood Reporter

After splitting from Jenny McCarthy, the comedic actor met and fell for a makeup artist from Ireland. They dated on and off for years and everyone thought it was a fairy-tale romance until White was found dead in her Los Angeles home.

Cathriona White took her own life on September 28, 2015, just two weeks after her 30th birthday.

Her death was ruled a suicide by an overdose of sleeping pills, heart medication and pain relievers.

At the scene of her death, police came across two notes, one of which was addressed specifically to Carrey.

Police interviewed Carrey in the months following White’s death, ultimately deciding he was not a suspect. The Mask star remained close with her family and was even a pallbearer at her funeral in Ireland.

The Sun

After her death, Carrey was shocked to learn that White was married to another man at the time of her death, and he had filed a lawsuit claiming the actor was responsible for his wife’s suicide.

During the time that Carrey and White had split, she had married an American by the name of Mark Burton. Their union was described as a marriage of convenience in order to keep her in the country.

Burton’s lawsuit claims that one of the medications that was responsible for her death was given to her by Carrey, in spite of him knowing she suffered from depression and had previously attempted suicide.

White’s mother has also launched a lawsuit because she believes her daughter was suicidal because of an STD she caught from Carrey.

“Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter,” she writes in her lawsuit. “As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is.”

Carrey is not taking these accusations lightly though.

‘Glee’ Star Mark Salling Attempted Suicide Just Days Before Pleading Guilty To Child Pornography

Disgraced actor Mark Salling attempted to take his own life a month and a half before striking a plea deal over child pornography possession.

The 35-year-old was in the bedroom of his Los Angeles home where he cut his wrists before “freaking out” and screaming for his roommate, who found him bleeding, according to TMZ.

Salling, known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the hit show Glee, was treated for his injuries by paramedics and brought to the hospital, where he underwent a psychiatric evaluation. Days later, Salling entered a rehabilitation facility for psychological issues.

The cuts have left Salling’s arms scarred, explaining his recent sightings in long sleeve shirts in the scorching California heat.

The Note Jim Carrey’s Girlfriend Wrote Before She Killed Herself Is Absolutely Chilling

In a -discovered note from before her suicide, Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend blames the comedian for exposing her to a life of debauchery.

The note was written by Catriona White on April 8, 2013 on her iPad. It’s not known whether she actually sent the letter to Carrey before she took her own life on September 28, 2015, two weeks after her 30th birthday.

At the time the note was written, the couple was not together because White had told Carrey that she tested positive for herpes. He maintains that she didn’t contract the disease from him and that she must have had it before they met.

The note was discovered during an investigation into her wrongful death which sparked a lawsuit the family has ordered against the 55-year-old actor.

After splitting from Jenny McCarthy, the Liar Liar star met and fell for the makeup artist from Ireland. They dated on and off for years and everyone thought it was a fairy-tale romance until White was found dead in her Los Angeles home.

Carrey was then shocked to learn that White was married to another man at the time of her death and he filed a lawsuit claiming the actor was responsible for his wife’s suicide.

During the time that Carrey and wife split she had married an American named Mark Burton. Lawyers describe the union as one of convenience to keep her in the country.

Daily Mirror

Burton now claims that one of the medications that were responsible for her death was supplied by Carrey, even though he knew she was suicidal.

White’s mother is also suing the actor because she believes that her daughter was suicidal because of an STD she caught from Carrey.

“Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter,” she writes in her lawsuit. “As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is.”

It was announced that the star will have his day in court next April to disprove these claims.

“I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved,” Carrey said in a statement.

Daily Mail

In 2015, the couple got back together despite their earlier dispute. Carrey claims that the couple would have been together indeterminately but had no plans of getting married. They had initally planned to get married until they were drawing up a prenuputal agreement and it became clear to Carrey that the marriage “was more about convenience and finding a way to stay in the United States without fear of deportation than about her love for him.” After that, he told her that they would not marry and that he would help her gain legal status in the country by hiring an immigration attorney.

Daily Mail

It was after these events, Carrey claimed that she turned bitter and angry and lashed out at him.

But a new note reveals that their love story may have not been the fairy-tale romance everyone was led to believe.

Rosie O’Donnell’s Feud With Her Daughter Just Took An Ugly Turn In Public

Rosie O’Donnell and her estranged daughter, Chelsea Alliegro, are in the midst of a very ugly feud that has recently gone public with interviews and Twitter posts.

It all started with an interview, which 20-year-old Chelsea announced she was pregnant with what would be Rosie’s first grandchild.

“It’s very exciting and I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “I don’t really care if I have a boy or a girl, I’m just hoping for a healthy baby. Rosie will not be in my child’s life, and no, I do not feel sad about that, to be honest.”

Instead she will consider Rosie’s first wife, Kelli Carpenter and her husband’s mother as the child’s two grandparents.

Chelsea, who was adopted by Rosie when she was just three months old, have had a strained relationship for most of her adult life. She is the second of Rosie’s five adopted children.

“I don’t currently talk to any of my siblings,” she revealed.

In 2015 when she was 17-years-old, Chelsea ran away from home. This prompted her mother to post on Twitter for her safe return, indicating that she was mentally ill and in need of care. A week later the teen turned up at her then-boyfriend’s house and had a completely different version of the story her mother told.

She claimed Rosie had kicked her out of the house, and denied any mental illness.

In 2017, Cheslea met her husband, 31-year-old Nick, and the pair got married 3 months later without sharing the news with Rosie.

“[Rosie] was upset that we got married without telling her, which I totally understand,” she said at the time to Inside Edition. “I think she was shocked. The last time we got into an argument, we ended up screaming at each other and I left the room. Growing up, I never really got along with her and then once she kicked me out, I was just kind of done.”

The news of Chelsea’s pregnancy seems to have set Rosie over the edge for another reason.

When He Saw What She Was About To Do, He Climbed Up And Risked His Life For A Stranger

According to a new study from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, suicide rates are on the rise – especially among women.

Sadly, it’s comparable to the national levels that have surged to their highest in nearly 30 years. Like the national trend, rates of women committing suicide have risen in the city.

A study by the Health Department found that women have died by suicide at an increasing rate over a 14-year period.

One troubled woman almost became a part of that heartbreaking statistic when she climbed the rafters of a subway platform…
