Police have arrested a gunman who allegedly opened fire on pedestrians in New York City Tuesday afternoon.

The attack happened on West Street and Chambers Street in Manhattan at around 3 p.m. At least six people were wounded and at least two more were fatally shot. Before the shooting, the gunman either crashed or intentionally rammed his car into nearby pedestrians.

“What happened was there was a car crash… he came out of one of the cars. He had two guns. He was running around Chambers and somebody started to chase him,” a 14-year-old student at the nearby Stuyvesant High School told the New York Post. “I heard four to six gunshots – everybody starts running.”

Photos of the scene show a damaged white pickup truck with Home Depot decals. Witnesses say the truck was steered onto a bike path shortly before the shooting began.

Selena Gomez Opens Up About Undergoing Second Surgery After Transplant Complications

In early September, singer Selena Gomez revealed in an Instagram post that she had undergone a kidney transplant over the summer, putting rumors about her sudden public disappearance to rest.

The former Disney star wrote that the surgery was needed to improve her overall health as she battled lupus, a debilitating autoimmune disease that affects around 1.5 million Americans.

“So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” the singer wrote.

She also revealed that her best friend, actress Francia Raisa, was the one who donated the kidney.

“…There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful best friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis,” Gomez continued.

Gomez shared some photos of her post-surgery scars, but reassured her fans that she was recovering well and will be sharing more updates in the near future.

“I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you,” she added to the note. “Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.”

Now, nearly two months since coming clean to her fans about her surgery, Gomez stayed true to her word and offered up more details of her scary experience in her first interview since going under the knife.

10 Huge Mistakes Everyone Makes On The Price Is Right

We’ve all seen hundreds of episodes of America’s favorite game show, but almost nobody realizes there’s a winning strategy for The Price is Right.

Ben Blatt, a Harvard grad with a degree in applied mathematics, managed to crunch the numbers in the show’s most popular games and created an all-in-one cheat sheet with tips for how to win. As it turns out there is a science to even the most “random” games like Plinko. We break down how you can avoid the 10 most common Price is Right blunders:

Mistake #1: Not impressing Stan Blits

Who is Stan Blits? He’s a longtime production assistant for the game show with a very special job: Stan screens every person in the studio audience, looking for contestants to “come on down” to Contestant’s Row, and he alone decides who gets to play.

Blits, seen here firing up the crowd before a ‘Price’ taping.Shared

You could know all the prices by heart and still never get a chance to prove it if you don’t impress San Blits while waiting in line. Luckily, Stan has revealed what he’s looking for: “energy, sincerity, and potential humor. And if they can equal my energy or exceed it and maintain it, they are at the top of the list.”

Mistake #2: Guessing on Contestant’s Row

How much is a new barbecue, a vinyl record player and a flat screen TV worth? The odds are whatever number you just thought of was too low. Blatt checked the data on Contestant’s Row bids and found they were almost always lower than the actual price.

Whatever they bid, the last person to guess the price has a 35% chance of winning this round. Always try to guess $1 higher than the highest bid so far. If you do this as the last bidder, your odds of winning are an impressive 53%

Mistake #3: Starting from the bottom on the Clock Game

We don’t expect you to know the average price of the Clock Game prizes, but Blatt assures us that they’re almost always between $500 and $1,000. Your first bid in this “higher or lower” game should be $750, smack-dab in the middle.

If you keep using that technique (for instance, if it was higher than $750 your next guess would be $875, because that’s halfway to $1,000) you can normally get the exact price in 10 guesses or less.

Mistake #4: Bidding low on the Cliff Hangers prizes

The aim of this game is to guess the exact price of each of the three prizes, because for every dollar you’re off the mark by the mountain climber rises one of the 25 steps. The trick isn’t to guess perfectly, but to bet smart to keep the price difference low.

Blatt recommends starting with $19 (which is usually very close to the first prize). Each prize is more expensive than the next, so once the first prize has been revealed bet $11 more (so after a $30 prize, bid $41). Your mountain climber should be safe if you follow this strategy.

Mistake #5: Ending a car price with 95 or 50

One of the most exciting things you can hear while competing on Price is Right is that you’ll be bidding on a new car. But many contestants mess up their chance to win their new ride, and host Drew Carey thinks he knows why.

He says that most contestants make the same mistake when they bet on a car: ending their guess in 95 or 50. Here’s his reasoning:  “Car payments end in 95, 50, and 99. And, when you look in the paper all you see is the payment, you never see the car price. In the ad, you always see the payment, so that’s why people say the car has got to be 98 or 95.”

Experts Raise Red Flags About Baby Foods Made With Rice

As if new parent’s didn’t have enough to worry about, now experts have new warnings about baby foods made with rice.

While rice is healthy, cheap, and found in lots of foods for infants and toddlers, there are already a number of health concerns about the crop. Unlike other grains, rice is grown in paddies flooded with water, which makes it easier for pesticides and toxins to absorb into the rice and its byproducts.

The FDA has already warned about the levels of toxic metals and even cyanide found in rice, but now a new study is highlighting the levels of mercury in the grain. Mercury poisoning is a risk usually associated with eating fish, but the methylmercury that causes it can also be found in rice.

Now, a new study led by the Florida International University published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry says that the amount of methylmercury in rice cereals for babies is cause for concern.

Tests show the average levels of mercury in baby foods made from rice are three times higher than whole grain foods, and a stunning 19 times higher than foods made with other grains.

Because of these findings, health experts have new recommendations that all parents should read…

Chip And Joanna Admit There’s “Credence” To Those Divorce Rumors

America’s favorite reality TV couple have finally addressed the divorce rumors that plagued them for years.

Chip and Joanna Gaines rose to fame with their HGTV show Fixer Upper, which became an instant hit for the network and one of the most-watched shows on TV. The couple have capitalized on their success with their own store, a magazine, home improvement books, and partnerships with big name brands like Target.

But fans of the home renovation series were surprised to learn that the couple would be ending the series after season five, which premieres in November. The announcement ignited speculation that the couple were splitting up, a rumor that has popped up now and then since their show first started.

Now, in a surprising interview, Chip admits that there’s “a little credence” to those divorce rumors, and that the tension in his marriage with Joanna is part of the reason why Fixer Upper is ending. He even describes worrying that their relationship had reached “a point of no return.”

But Chip also has good news for fans…

With A Hurricane Threatening She Asked Her Professor For A Favor, And He Didn’t Disappoint

When Hurricane Irma was threatening the south-eastern seaboard, many people took the advice of government officials an decided to evacuate.

When Jessica Lewis felt the danger was too much, she knew she needed to pack up her belongings and head home to Atlanta for the weekend. But there was no way she was leaving without her best friend, Luna.

As the storm approached, it became obvious that Jessica was not the only one who took the warnings to heart. Traffic was already beginning to back up on the highways throughout Georgia and it seemed like it would only be worse .

With her Friday schedule cancelled, she only had one class remaining on Thursday before she could go to the safety of her parents. She decided to reach out to her professor to see if he would allow her to bring Luna to class so she could make a speedy get-away.

Fortunately, Professor Joshua Kennedy is an avid dog lover, and understood her situation, and so responded accordingly.

Normally professors would worry about the extra distractions that an animal would add to the classroom, but Luna had other plans.

6 Medical Conditions That Completely Transform People

There are a few things in life that seem too weird to actually have any chance of being true. In medical science, there are the really, really bizarre things that become all the more strange because they exist, and they could happen to you.

This condition is when a bald, red patch on the tongue is surrounded by white bordering, often causing strange shapes to appear on the surface of the membrane. The reason for this disorder is currently unknown, but it is assumed to work in tandem with diabetes and allergies. Only 1-2.5% of people have this disorder, do you?

While many will find this affliction humorous, for those that suffer from it, it’s no laughing matter. Foreign Accent Syndrome is a speech disorder that changes the way we vocalize in our own language. Often it develops after a mild brain injury or stroke and comes with other speech changes.

Congenital Hypertrichosis may be the basis of werewolf legends around the globe. This genetic disease causes the growth of excess hair all over the body and face, and individuals with the disorder have likely been victimized for centuries.

Think you’re safe from these conditions? Read on and you may just find a reason to think twice about that!
