It wouldn’t be the royal family if there wasn’t some type of controversy, now would it? The most recent conspiracy is revolving around the newest member, and it’s kind of interesting.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, a boy, early last week…or so they want us to believe. That’s right, there’s a theory out there that Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is actually two weeks old, not days old as the palace has wanted us to believe.
The first hint is that Meghan and Harry flat out told everyone they were going to keep the news of their baby’s birth a secret, saying they wanted their privacy.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and world as they prepare to welcome their baby. Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.
The second hint has to do with the unveiling of little Archie on May 9th, three days after he was born, and what words the new parents used.
“Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks, so we’re sort of monitoring how this changing process happens over this next month really,” Harry said of his son. “But his looks are changing every single day so who knows.”
Meghan quickly shot him a look, making people wonder if perhaps Harry had just spilled the beans on a big secret.
Patti Wood, a body language expert and the author of Snap: Making the Most of First Impressions, Body Language, and Charisma, says those words weren’t forced, meaning there was probably some truth behind them.
“When he said ‘the last two weeks’ it came out very smoothly. Typically, when something is authentic, there’s a musicality to it, there’s a smoothness to it, there’s a naturalness to it,” Wood said. “If it’s been two days, you wouldn’t say that. You would say, he’s changed over the last two days, or he’s changed over the last 24-hour period. It’s word choice, it’s word emphasis.”
Wood also noted a change in Meghan’s physical appearance when Harry made those comments.
“The other thing that was really noticeable is her smile got crooked,” she said. “Her mouth went asymmetrical. That’s when you have to act one way but you’re feeling another way. Typically she has a very balanced smile, so that was not her baseline behavior.”
But, Wood also points out that the change in Meghan’s smile could have to do with being physically uncomfortable.
“She was obviously in physical pain,” Wood noted. “There was tension in her foot placement, her leg placement, how she was arching her back. There was pain on her face. It was extensive pain that was affecting all of her nonverbal [cues]. You always need to account for that and give a person grace for it.”
Wood is giving Meghan some grace, but the body language expert does admit there are some big hints.
“I am curious, because there was more than one indication,” she said. “There was initially her delivery, there was his statement; her extended look. Then it was him trying to fix it and ending up with another statement that made no sense in the context of two days.”
Another interesting comment was from new-mom Meghan, who commented on Archie’s temperament.
“It’s magic,” Meghan said. “It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy. He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm.”
Of course, what’s she going to say? That he’s crying a lot? It’s still a strange thing to say about a new baby.
The timeline can also be traced back to a few weeks ago, lining up with this theory. Meghan was oddly missing from Easter mass on April 21st, the same day her mother arrived for the birth of the baby. Plus, there was apparently a hospital spotted outside Frogmore Cottage on April 26, which is where Harry and Meghan live now. In addtion, the Queen made a visit to Frogmore cottage that same day, along with Prince William and Kate Middleton, hinting that perhaps Archie was born a little earlier than we’re being led to believe.
There is one piece of evidence that is pretty damning against this conspiracy, though, and that’s the announcement from Meghan and Harry of Archie’s birth.
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” the announcement said. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.
It would be a pretty big deal if their royal highnesses flat-out lied about the birth of their son. Omitting the date would have been one thing, but I don’t think they could get away with providing the wrong date.
Of course, these are all just theories, and there’s truly no reason for Meghan and Harry to lie about Archie’s birth. But what’s life without a little fun?
