The Top Baby Names Of 2019 So Far Have Been Revealed

Can you believe we are already four months into 2019? The year is zooming by faster than you can say Jack Robinson.

As we go further into the year, we’re beginning to see which trends will stick around for a while, and this includes baby names.

Nameberry, the largest baby name website in the world, has recently released its list of the most popular baby names of the year so far, and it is full of surprises. These days, it isn’t just celebrities that are opting to give their kids unusual names. Average parents are more daring than ever when it comes baby name choices.

While the annual baby name list still includes classic monikers like Eleanor, Henry, Alice and Oscar, these names failed to nab the number one spot. In both the boys and girls categories, the names in the top spots seem to be inspired by pop culture, literature and Greek mythology.

For girls, Isla ranked at number one while Olivia and Posie followed in second and third, respectively. Aurora and Cora rounded out the top five.

As for boys, Milo came out on top, followed by Jasper and Asher. Atticus and Silas took the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Since it is only May, we should expect this list to change as more babies make their debut this year. It wouldn’t come as a shock if the next reiteration of the list includes celebrity baby names like Birdie (Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s daughter), Archie (Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son), and Psalm (Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s son).

Both Birdie and Archie stem from shortened versions of Elizabeth and Archibald, respectively. However, it is not common to find a person named Psalm.

The name Kim and Kanye picked for their fourth child is obviously inspired by the Bible. Sources close to the couple have told media outlets that the celebrity couple chose the moniker, which means “song” or “instrumental music,” because it reflects their current spiritual state.

“Kanye has been going through a spiritual revival lately,” the anonymous insider explained. “Every name has a meaning that is personal between Kanye and Kim and the child. Psalm is a good reflection of where Kanye and Kim are spiritually.”

Psalm’s grandmother, Kris Jenner, also opened up about her youngest grandchild’s unique name. She revealed that the name goes beyond the Bible, adding that it is “just a wonderful way to celebrate how they [Kim and Kanye] feel. And he’s such a blessing, so it’s perfect. He’s just adorable.”

This isn’t the first time that Kim and Kanye have shocked us with an unusual baby name. The couple, who have been married for five years, named their first daughter North, while their second and third children are named Saint and Chicago.

The Kardashian-West children are not alone in having names that stand out. Their cousins also boast unique names. Kim’s sisters Khloe and Kylie named their daughters, True and Stormi.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Give Baby #4 A Religious Name

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have a knack for unique baby names, and this time around it’s no different. Their first child, a daughter, is named North West. Then, there’s son Saint West. Their third child, another daughter, is named Chicago West, and when the news of a fourth child was made public, people were wondering what his name would be.

There was speculation that his name might be Robert, named after Kim’s father, as she has been speaking more openly about following in his footsteps and honoring his legacy by becoming a lawyer. That being said, Robert seemed too normal for the eccentric couple. When Kanye West is involved, nothing is ever normal.

“Kanye has been going through a spiritual revival lately. Every name has a meaning that is personal between Kanye and Kim and the child,” a source close to the couple said.

This week, Kim announced the name of their son, who was born on May 10th. She posted a screenshot of a text from her husband, which included a picture of the baby, and captioned it “Psalm West.”

The name is very spiritual, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the family recently.

“Psalm is a good reflection of where Kanye and Kim are spiritually,” the source said. “Kanye is very involved in choosing the names. He and Kim do exactly what every couple does, where they each bring up names and the other one gives their feedback. It’s very traditional that way. Kanye would never just choose a name that Kim doesn’t like, or vice versa. The names are things that they mutually agree upon.”

Kim and Kanye have been hosting a “Sunday Service” in California, where hoards of people gather to worship through music. The experience has been “healing” for Kanye, according to Kim.

“It’s honestly more like a healing experience for my husband,” she said. “It’s just music; there’s no sermon. It’s definitely something he believes in — Jesus— and there’s a Christian vibe. But there’s no preaching. It’s just a very spiritual Christian experience.”

The reality star noted, though, that it’s not just for those of the Christian faith.

“Kourtney’s best friends come all the time and they’re Muslim. All my Jewish friends came on Sunday; they loved it,” she said. “Everyone that comes understands it’s just a really healing experience with an amazing choir, and amazing messages about love to start off your week.”

The couple now has two daughters with geographically inspired names, while their sons have religious-inspired ones. But will there be more babies in the future?

“Kim and Kanye feel complete with the addition of their newest son,” a source said. “Kim has always wanted a big family, and this expansion has filled her and Kanye with so much happiness. The couple is enjoying this special moment as a family and taking the time to fully embrace each new moment that comes with this new chapter.”

I actually don’t dislike the name Psalm, and personally prefer it to Chicago. What do you think of the name?
