People Are Mom-Shaming Hilary Duff For Piercing Her Daughter’s Ears

There are very few things that get parents on the internet as riled up as piercing baby ears does. While some parents believe the act of piercing a baby’s earlobes is part of cultural tradition, others are convinced that it is a form of child abuse.

While debate over the issue quietened for a while, a photo posted by actress Hilary Duff has restarted the conversation recently.

The entertainer shared a black-and-white photo of herself and her daughter Banks on Instagram. Captioned, “Mama and 🍓, the sweet snap showed the eight-month-old’s ear with a tiny stud in it.

As soon as the photo was uploaded, people took to the comments to share their thoughts on baby Banks’ pierced ears. One fan said that they’ve “unfollowed” Duff because of her choice to pierce her daughter’s ears.

Another wrote, “I can’t believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn’t for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes.”

“I can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughter’s ears pierced,” one mom-shammer added. “Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort.”

Luckily, Duff has a strong fan base and they came to her defence.

Many pointed out that not only does Duff not need to seek other people’s approval when making parenting decisions, ear piercing is a tradition in many cultures. Others pointed out that both Banks and Duff look happy and that’s the only thing that matters.

This isn’t the first time that Duff has been subjected to mom-shaming. A few years ago, the mom-of-two received a ton of criticism after she posted a photo of herself kissing her son, Luca, on the lips.

“Kissing your child on the lips is not necessary,” wrote one Instagram user. “It may in time create a not healthy desire and it’s too close to what adults do.”

Duff eventually responded to the comments. She wrote, “For anyone commenting that a kiss on the lips with my four year old is ‘inappropriate’ go ahead and click a quick unfollow with your warped minds and judgment.”

In a 2018 interview, Duff recalled the mom-shaming comments she received over the kissing photo and revealed that she was also shamed for giving Luca, whose dad is retired hockey player Mike Comrie, piggybacks.

“People can be like, ‘Oh, you’re holding that child? He’s six.’ Yeah, I swing him over my head, when his legs are tired I hold him — it’s a little hard right now — but yeah, I give piggyback rides. People just have all these crazy judgments, and I think it’s best to not listen and laugh it off,” Duff told Allure.

She added, “Honestly, trying to put into perspective other people’s realities. The only thing that matters is you and your family and whatever choices you’re making, and how that choice feels for your family.”

Kudos to Duff for not letting the negative comments affect her or her family.

Chrissy Teigan Mom-Shamed Over Daughter’s Nail Polish

Despite her cleaver and hilarious responses to previous mom-shaming comments, Chrissy Teigen is yet again at the center of another heated parenting debate.

What is the fiasco about this time? Nail polish on her daughter Luna’s toes.

The model, cookbook author and mom of two recently took to Twitter to let her followers in on a special moment between her and Luna.

“Doing her nails is my knitting. Kid toes kill me!” Teigen wrote in the tweet, accompanied by a video showing the toddler’s toes painted red.

Teigen’s innocent post was well received by most people, with some parents even sharing photos of their children’s pedicures. However, there were a few critics who called out the Lip Sync Battle co-host for exposing her three-year-old child to the dangerous chemicals in the polish.

“Applying poisonous chemicals directly onto a child’s body cannot be good, one user wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “Whatever poisons are in polish are absorbed through the nail and directly into their body.”

Teigen, who is never one to pass up an opportunity to dish out a witty response, replied with: “Well I actually had her drink it, so joke’s on you.”

This is just the second time in two weeks that Teigen’s parenting choices were questioned. After sharing a photo of Luna’s first visit to the dentist, a user commented that the three-year-old should’ve been to the dentist sooner.

“What age do they start over there? My daughter started seeing a dentist at a [year] old,” the user wrote.

“Was waiting for this. U guys never fail me,” Teigen, who is no stranger to unsolicited opinions, replied.

A few weeks earlier, after Teigen shared a video of Luna negotiating for candy, another user made a snarky comment regarding the state of the young girl’s hair.

“Finally someone brushed her hair,” read the comment.

Again, Teigen wasted no time in firing back.  She wrote: “All by herself! Maybe she can come do your makeup.”

Although both celebrity mothers and fathers get shamed for their choices, it seems like the moms receive the most criticism. Teigen can definitely handle her own, but her husband John Legend thinks she should be given a break. In an interview with Us Weekly, he explained that it is only fair that he get some of that criticism too.

“On our first date after Luna was born, everyone critiqued [Teigen],” the Grammy-winning singer told the publication recently. “‘Why are you going out two weeks after your baby was born?’ But they didn’t critique me. I spoke out about it then. She spoke about it. I think hopefully people are learning that Chrissy and I are a partnership and if you’re going to parent shame us, do it to us as a partnership.”

Teigen appears unfazed by the criticism, and has continued to share content on her social media pages. Even though being on the receiving end of mom-shaming is never a pleasant experience, there’s solace in knowing that Teigen does not let people get away with this kind of behaviour.

Khloé Kardashian Responds To Mom-Shaming On Instagram

Khloé Kardashian Responds To Mom-Shaming On Instagram

Khloé Kardashian spent years trying to become a mom. With her ex-husband Lamar Odom, Khloé went through tests and treatments to find out why she couldn’t get pregnant. Ultimately, it was for the best, as her marriage with Lamar ended amid scandal from his drug addiction. However, her desire to be a mom never faltered.

When it was announced that she was expecting her first child with then-boyfriend Tristan Thompson, everyone was thrilled for the reality star that she was finally getting to live her dream. Sadly, her happy family quickly came to an end when Tristan cheated on Khloé days before she gave birth to their daughter, True.

Khloé tried to repair the relationship, but then it came out that Tristan cheated again, this time with Kylie Jenner’s best friend Jordyn Woods, and Khloé called it quits for good. Since then, she has been focusing on being the best mom she can be to her daughter, but as with anyone who lives in the public eye, Khloé has been the subject of a lot of mom shaming.

In the past, Khloé was shamed for her use of formula to supplement her breastfeeding schedule.

“Mommy shaming is real!” she shared on Twitter. “But the truth is I’ve tried and tried and tried to breastfeed only and it wasn’t working for me. I feel fortunate that I am able to still breastfeed but with the help of formula. Breastfeeding is something I really wanted to do. Just am not fully able.”

This time around, though, someone called out Khloé for her use of a nanny, and the clothing designer wasn’t having any of it.

“Khloe acts like she can’t go anywhere without her nanny,” the comment read. “Nanny is in every pic and place she goes. She can mother on her own, we all do it! What a joke. She literally can’t go to the market, a party, or lunch without her nanny Wtf.”

It’s a weird thing to accuse someone of, because if you’re paying a nanny…and your child is with you…maybe the nanny should be there? Plus, in the picture the person is commenting on, the nanny isn’t even helping with the baby, so it’s not like she’s doing all the work. Khloé doesn’t always respond to comments, but this one got her attention.

I can go anywhere and everywhere with whom I choose to. I choose to treat everybody like family that is in my house. I choose to invite whoever wants to come to fun outings.

We all love and enjoy the farmers market and it’s so fun to go places and create memories together. I hope you have a happy and blessed day.

I also hope that you are very kind to the ones that are kind to you. The ones that are not, probably need your kindness even more.

Many people came to Khloé’s defense, saying there’s no issue with her having a nanny.

“you do see @khloekardashian is carrying her own child and pushing the stroller with her child in it, correct?” one person wrote. “You act like there isn’t parent/child interaction! This Mommy constantly has her baby!!! Stop hating woman to woman!! 😡🤦🏻‍♀️”

“Ive never seen this nanny in any other pictures,” another pointed out. “but anyways, why is this a bad thing!? I don’t have a nanny because I resigned from my job to take care of my daughter; khloe can’t just quit and do the same! Parenting is not an easy task… imagine being a parent and having ten jobs 👀💦”

“Wow!! You would think as women we wouldn’t hate like that!” a fan wrote. “Must be very insecure about themselves! And let’s be honest ladies if you could afford a nanny you would bring them everywhere you could! Keep doing what your doing kloe 🥰”

It’s well known that Khloé loves being a hands-on mom. Since she’s given birth, she’s rarely seen without baby True, and multiple sources have said that any help she has around is more for “support and company.”

“Khloé seems to like having someone with experience help her, but she still spends most hours of the day with her daughter,” and insider said. “She walks the baby around their neighborhood every day.”

Like the one commenter said, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the nanny in any of Khloé’s pictures, although her Instagram feed is well cultivated, so perhaps she just doesn’t post the pictures with her in them. Regardless, I don’t see there being an issue with Khloé having a nanny. Many families need help, especially families who work a lot.

What do you think of the person’s comment towards Khloé?
