‘Forrest Gump’ Writer Shares Details From The Sequel That Almost Got Made

Someone – I can’t quite remember who – once said that life is like a box of chocolates, because you never know what you’re going to get.

Take the movie Forrest Gump for example: no one could have guessed that the film about a simple man from Alabama who lived through some of his era’s most historic events would become a global sensation that racked in hundreds of millions at the box office.

Forrest Gump
‘Forrest Gump’ won six Oscars.Paramount Pictures

It turns out the multi-Oscar-winning movie was once set to get a sequel, with plans for Forrest to stumble through even more famous events in the 1990s and beyond.

Although the movie was canceled, screenwriter Eric Roth revealed to Yahoo Entertainment some of the adventures that were in store for Tom Hanks’ most iconic character before the project was scrapped.

The sequel was supposed to pick up where the first film left off, revealing that Forrest’s son Forrest Junior had contracted AIDS from his mother, Jenny.

The sequel was planned to reveal that Forrest Jr. was living with AIDS.Paramount Pictures

“People wouldn’t go to class with (Forrest Jr.) in Florida,” Roth said.

“We had a funny sequence where they were (desegregation) busing in Florida at the same time, so people were angry about either the bussing or (their) kids having to go to school with the kid who had AIDS. So there was a big conflict.”

Then, Forrest was supposed to run into some famous faces, just like he did in the original film. But instead of another U.S. president, Forrest was meant to cross paths with O.J. Simpson during his infamous slow-speed police chase.

“I had (Forrest) in the back of (O.J. Simpson’s) Bronco,” Roth remembered. “He would look up occasionally, but they didn’t see him in the rearview mirror, and then he’d pop down.”

A stint as a ballroom dancer would even lead Forrest to share a dance with Princess Diana before her death in 1997.

In what might have been one of the film’s most moving scenes, Forrest was also meant to be on the scene of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, waiting for his new love interest outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

Here’s how Roth described the scene:

(Forrest) meets on a bus a Native American woman and finds his calling as a bingo caller on a reservation. And the big event in that, which you could see was diminished only in tragedy, I guess, because it’s the same tragedy, but every day he’d go wait for his Native American partner.

She taught nursery school at a government building in Oklahoma City. And he was sitting on the bench waiting for her to have lunch and all of a sudden the building behind him blows up. … So when 9/11 occurred … everything felt meaningless.

Oklahoma City Bombing
A script for the sequel featured Forrest at the scene of the Oklahoma City Bombing.Mark Burkholder

That, Roth revealed, was one of the major reasons the planned sequel was shelved. He explained that the script was handed in just one day before the 9/11 attacks.

“Tom and I and [director Rom Zemeckis] got together on 9/11 to sort of commiserate about how life was in America and how tragic it was. And we looked at each other and said, ‘This movie has no meaning anymore, in that sense.'”

But the original film’s star, Tom Hanks, is obviously still thinking about Forrest and the sorts of adventures he would get up to today.

In a 2014 interview with USA Today, the actor proposed even more recent adventures for the hapless do-gooder:

“All the political figures would be too obvious, so Forrest would have chatted up both [Facebook creators] Mark Zuckerberg and the Winklevoss twins about how it would be nice if you had a book that would show a person’s face and make a friend,” he said.

“Forrest would have been in New Orleans for (2005 hurricane) Katrina where his own common sense would have saved him and others,” he added.

“Momma would have told him to go high when the waters rise. Bubba would have taught him about boats and Lt. Dan would come and find him.”

They Step On The Ice, And When The Music Starts, I Cry Every Time

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love figure skating and ice dancing. Whenever the Olympics come on, those are the first two sports I try to find on the schedule. Now, personally, my favorite ice dancers are the Canadian duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. Their chemistry is outstanding, and they are the definition of perfection in my books.

However, another skating couple is quickly launching up to the top, and even competed against the Canadian power couple. Those people are Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, who compete for France at the Olympics and in world skating championships. The pair came in second to Virtue and Moir at the 2018 Olympics, but they definitely held their own and gave the Canadians a run for their money.

In fact, Papadakis and Cizeron trained with Virtue and Moir for a couple of years, and even the French skaters admitted they didn’t know what to expect.

“It was interesting when they came,” Papadakis said. “We didn’t really know about it before, so it was a surprise. But we’ve seen them before so we knew them a little bit. They are a couple with a lot of experience and their way to work shows that they have been at a high level for a long time. Now we know them quite well. It is a rivalry that like the one they had with Davis/White and they are used to that. We all respect each other during the training and everyone has their way to train. I think we push each other by seeing each other.”

Clearly, the young French skaters were taking notes, because their performance to Ed Sheeran’s famous song “Perfect” left so many people with tears in their eyes. The video is from 2016, which is around when the teams started skating together. It’s not hard to see the similarities between the couples.

“These are the most in tuned perfect skaters I have seen in years,” one person wrote on YouTube. “They make me cry when I watch this performance… I can’t stop watching how this is the way couples should be in life throughout…. I love this video, LOVE there connection….”

“This is just really beautiful, I admire these people so much,” another said. “They make it look so effortless, flow-y graceful like they are flying behind hours and months and years of hard work and sweat, pain and hard ships but always pushing through and getting to where they are now.”

You can watch the full performance below…and I dare you not to get chills!

Lori Laughlin And Felicity Huffman Sued For $500 Billion

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman, the pair is now being sued for $500 billion dollars by a mom who believes her son missed out on a chance at university because of the celebrities who bought their kids’ education.

Jennifer Kay Toy, a teacher who previously taught in the Oakland Unified School District, filed a lawsuit against all the people involved in the college admission scam, claiming that her son, Joshua, wasn’t admitted to university because of their criminal activity.

Instagram – Olivia Jade

l raised my son Joshua by myself since he was two and half years old and I always taught 8 him the same things I taught my students. I made sacrafices [sic] to help Joshua get into a good college  just as many parents do. Because of Joshua’s hard work and study he graduated with a 4.2 grade point average, I couldn’t be more proud.

Joshua applied to some of the colleges where the chearing [sic] took place and did not get in. Joshua and I beleived [sic] that he’d had a fair chance just like all other applicants but did not make the cut for some undisclosed reason. I’m now aware of the massive cheating scandal wherein wealthy people conspired with people in positions of power and authority at colleges in order to allow their chjldren [sic] to gain access to the very colleges [sic] that Joshua was rejected from.

I’m not a wealthy person, but even if l were wealthy l would not have engaged in the heainous [sic] and dispicable [sic] actions of defendants. I’m outraged and hurt because I feel that my son, my only child, was denied access to a college not because he failed to work and study hard enough but because wealthy individuals felt it was ok to lie, cheat, steal and bribe their children’s way into a good college.

Instagram – Olivia Jade

In the lawsuit documents, Toy says “Due to the length and breadth of the cheating scam it is estimated that more than 1,000,000 people have been affected.”

Loughlin and her husband J. Mossimo Giannulli, along with Felicity Huffman and many others, were arrested for their involvement in the admission scam, which saw Loughlin fork over more than $500,000 to help get her daughters into UCLA.

In a 204-page affidavit from law enforcement, Loughlin was in Cahoots with Rick Singer, the mastermind of all this, and even sent an emoji after finding out her youngest daughter had been accepted.

“On or about November 16, 2017, [Singer] sent the Giannullis an e-mail bearing the subject line, ‘CONGRATULATIONS!!!’ with their younger daughter’s conditional acceptance letter attached,” the affidavit reads. “Loughlin responded, ‘This is wonderful news! [High-Five Emoji].’

“[Singer] replied: ‘Please continue to keep hush hush till March,’” the affidavit alleges. “Loughlin responded: ‘Yes, of course.’”

No one from the college admissions scam has spoken out about this, but Loughlin has been dropped from Hallmark, while both her daughters have since left university, claiming the bullying would be too much for them to deal with.

Jenny McCarthy Slams Barbara Walters In New Book About “The View”

Jenny McCarthy was a very polarizing figure when she was on The View. Actually, she’s just a polarizing figure in general. McCarthy’s anti-vaccination stance has always landed her in hot water, and her strong opinions were only heightened when she was on the famous daytime TV show.

However, despite being one of the hosts on the iconic show, McCarthy actually seemed to hate working with Barbara Walters, or at least that’s what she says in an upcoming book, Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of “The View.” An excerpt of the book, which was written by reporter Ramin Setoodeh, was published in Vulture, and saw McCarthy slam the iconic Walters for her behavior.

YouTube – ET Canada

McCarthy recalls Walters being so unpredictable, she’d have to psych herself up before going to work every day.

“Hopefully, I get the Barbara Walters who is nice,” she recalls telling herself.

YouTube – The View

She also claims that Walters screamed at her.

“You know the movie Mommie Dearest? I remember as a child watching that movie and going, ‘Holy cow!’ I’ve never seen a woman yell like that before until I worked with Barbara Walters,” she admits.

YouTube – The View

McCarthy does acknowledge, though, that a lot of the attitude could have come from the fact that Walters was in the last year of her contract, and was struggling with the thought of leaving.

“Imagine a woman like Barbara Walters,” McCarthy says. “It’s her last year and she doesn’t want to leave. Think about that. And I’m the new bitch there.”

Instagram – Jenny McCarthy

Despite Walters being an iconic journalist, she began losing touch with things happening in pop culture. Because of this, McCarthy claims, the show couldn’t “do pop culture anymore because [Walters] doesn’t know who the people are.” It was determined that the show would take a more political tone, and that concerned McCarthy.

“I panicked because I don’t consider myself a political person,” she says. “Now I had to figure out, ‘Am I coming out as a Republican or a Democrat? Where do I stand on all the social issues and political issues?’”

YouTube – The View

All of this took a toll on McCarthy, and it got to the point where she was starting to lose her faith.

“I was going to work crying. I couldn’t be myself,” she says. “My fans were telling me, ‘Where’s Jenny? They aren’t letting you be you.’”

Instagram – Jenny McCarthy

To make matters worse. McCarthy had been offered her own talk show on CBS, but instead she chose to go to The View, and it’s a decision she ended up regretting.

“Every day I went home and I was miserable,” she adds. “It really was the most miserable I’ve been on a job in my 25 years of show business. I kicked myself for not taking the CBS job, of course.”

ABC

It even got to the point where Walters would make McCarthy change clothes if she felt they didn’t match.

“Barbara would check out what I was wearing. If she didn’t agree with it, or it didn’t complement her outfit, I had to change,” McCarthy said. “Mind you, she doesn’t look at anyone’s clothes but mine… I was a human Barbie doll.”

Instagram – Jenny McCarthy

Perhaps the most ridiculous story that McCarthy revealed was when there was a tampon floating in one of the communal toilets. Walters went ballistic on McCarthy, apparently, forcing the co-host to deal with it.

“She’s standing in the hallway where the guests are, yelling at me about a tampon,” McCarthy recalls. “I don’t know. Maybe in her brain, she went, ‘I’m going to the youngest, newest person here, because obviously she has her period and left a tampon floating.’ This is Barbara Walters. I’m not going to yell at her. So finally I said, ‘I’ll take care of it. I’ll take one for the team and I’ll flush it.’”

ABC

McCarthy began to fear Walters on a daily basis, and even learned to recognize her footsteps.

“When I’d hear the shuffle of her feet, I knew that Barbara was after me,” she recalls. “It would get faster. Oh my God — she’s coming! Based on the speed of the shuffle, I would hide or get on the phone.”

YouTube – The View

It’s interesting, though, at the end of the interview, McCarthy seems to dismiss all of her claims, saying Walters didn’t mean anything by what she did.

“Look at what Barbara did to me. I had zero hard feelings,” she says. “I loved her like a grandma. She didn’t know any better.”

ABC

McCarthy also took a shot at co-host Whoopi Goldberg in the new book.

“People don’t understand. Whoopi can knock over anyone in a debate,” McCarthy points out. “Her voice is not only strong in meaning but in sound. I was able to get a point out in three words — like ‘I don’t agree’ — and that’s all I would be able to say. I would be stepped on or interrupted. She had an addiction to controlling all of it and everybody.”

ABC

It’s pretty safe to say this new book will be explosive, and I’m interested to see who else will have their say!

Michael Jackson’s Bodyguard Insists He Was Only “Into Women” In New Interview

After the premiere of the documentary Leaving Neverland, celebrities are publicly taking sides in the debate over sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson.

There are those who believe that Jackson is innocent and say the allegations are not true, including Jackson’s siblings and his daughter Paris.

Others, like Amber Tamblyn and Rosie O’Donnell, believe the alleged victims Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who shared their emotional stories of being molested as children by Jackson in the film.

Bill Whitfield bodyguard
Bodyguards Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard wrote a memoir about working for Jackson called ‘Remember The Time.’Weinstein Books

Now, someone who spent years working closely with Jackson has shared his thoughts on the allegations, revealing that he doesn’t believe them for a very particular reason.

On a recent episode of the podcast Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo, Jackson’s former bodyguard Bill Whitfield said the singer was only “into women,” and even insisted the singer was “completely heterosexual.”

Whitfield said that Jackson often spoke to him about women he found “very attractive” during long car rides they took together, and shared a story with Breslo about helping Jackson get a woman’s phone number.

[embedded content]

When pressed for more information by the host, Whitfield said he wouldn’t share private details of Jackson’s love life, but hinted the pop star did spend time alone with women.

The few details we do know about the famously private star’s love life seem to show he had a romantic interest in women. He was married to Lisa Marie Presley, and shared two children with his second wife, nurse Debbie Rowe.

(Jackson’s third child was conceived via IVF with a surrogate.)

Jackson also insisted he was not gay in an interview from the 1970s, and Presley described having a normal sexual relationship with the singer in an interview with Diane Sawyer.

But none of those details disprove the many allegations of child abuse against Jackson.

Before his recent interview, Whitfield had already made his thoughts about Leaving Neverland very clear in a tweet about the film.

“I need to know who are the HBO producers behind the documentary,” he wrote. “I need to let them know Wade Robson and Jimmy Safechuck are con artist! [sic] During my tenure with MJ I never met these dudes and you had to go through me to see MJ. They are LIARS!”

Whitfield backed up his strong views in his interview with Breslo, saying he was “affirmatively coming out [against Jackson’s accusers].”

Whitfield worked for Jackson for two-and-a-half years at the very end of the singer’s life, long after the events detailed in Leaving Neverland allegedly took place.

Another of Jackson’s former bodyguards, Matt Fiddes, also slammed Leaving Neverland for leaving out the detail that Jackson’s accusers are suing the musician’s estate,

Whitfield is set to return to the Hidden Truth for another interview, which could reveal more details about Jackson in his final days.

The worst, most backward day of my life

I’m 20 years old and a sophomore in college. I didn’t get my period yet this month so over the weekend I decided to take a pregnancy test and it turns out I’m pregnant. I knew I was going to terminate the pregnancy immediately since I’m in no position to care for a child at this point in my life. I called my boyfriend, my parents, and my best friend, and they were all supportive of my decision. After crying and getting over the shittiness of the situation, I made an appointment for a non surgical (medical) abortion. The appointment was for today, so this morning I called an Uber (I don’t have a car on campus) and headed to the clinic which was an hour away.

My Uber driver seemed immediately uncomfortable and asked if we were going to a planned parenthood. I said no (which was the truth), we were just going to a doctors appointment. Still, he seemed uncomfortable. “Is it an abortion clinic?” The color drained from my face; how could he know? I just put the address of the doctor in, and there was nothing in the name that would imply it was an abortion clinic. He stared at me, waiting for an answer, but I was too shocked to reply. I couldn’t believe this was happening, and now I was trapped in the car with this guy for the next hour. “You know,” he said, “you’re going to regret this decision for the rest of your life.” He started telling me about the procedure, what it was like, telling me how horrible it was. “There’s so much they don’t tell you. You’re making a mistake”. He brought up his wife, who was 5 months pregnant, but trailed off. I just sat there in silence. We were driving through rural land, miles from any kind of house or storefront. I prayed he wouldn’t hurt me.

We got about halfway there when he suddenly pulled over on the side of the road. “I’m sorry, I can’t take you any farther than this. You won’t find another Uber out here. I can take you back if you want.” I politely declined and got out of the car. I immediately started calling local taxi companies and asked if they could pick me up. My phone gave me a rough location which I gave them as my pickup address. My Uber driver waited around for about 15 minutes, assuming I’d change my mind. I insisted I was fine and that he should go back and he eventually left. After waiting about 25 minutes, the cab showed up and I got to my appointment (an hour late).

Even thinking about this experience brings tears to my eyes. I can’t believe someone would be this cruel. An abortion is already traumatic enough, and not at all a decision I take lightly. That an older man would corner me and confront me about decisions that are none of his business are astounding. I contacted Uber and I can only pray they take appropriate action.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your kind words! The thousands of internet hugs have made a huge difference. I reported him to Uber, and Uber got back to me and refunded the ride and said they were “reviewing his account”. I hope to God he’s fired.

For all the people who say I deserved this kind of treatment, I have nothing to say to you. I come from a politically conservative family, so I understand being pro life and disagreeing with my decision to terminate my pregnancy. However, the driver was aware of my decision to get an abortion within 10-15 minutes of picking me up from all his probing questions. If he wasn’t comfortable driving me to the clinic, why continue to drive me there until we were stranded? Was it an impulsive decision to leave me by the side of the road, or was it premeditated after he understood our destination? He easily could have left me in my small city and I would have been able to get a different Uber driver and avoided the whole fiasco that ensued. Or, as others have pointed out, he could have simply declined the ride if the destination (and my decision to exercise my rights) were that offensive to him.

I have no issue with him (or anyone else) having a different opinion or with him disagreeing with my choices. But your beliefs do not give you the right to make me feel uncomfortable when I’m completely vulnerable and am relying on you to perform a service I desperately need.

I’m debating posting something in r/legaladvice because I fear the possibility that this could happen again with another young woman (or man) who happened to be doing something or was about to engage in a behavior he personally deemed objectionable. Who else has he stranded, and who else will be stranded yet?

If there are further developments I will update all of you! Again, thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. I had no idea my post would blow up like this and it makes me feel good knowing people of the internet have my back. You guys are awesome and this subreddit is amazing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Also: thank you kind Redditors for the gold, silver and platinum!! I will make sure this never happens to someone else again.

Update 2: As I commented below, the reason my parents or boyfriend couldn’t drive me is because they both live in North Carolina while I go to school in New York. My boyfriend couldn’t afford to buy a last minute flight to see me, and because I live in a dorm room with a roommate, there would have been no place for him to stay. My parents did manage to get a last minute flight, but they didn’t get one in time to take me to my appointment.
